Soul is about recognizing that living things have a consciousness and inner life. To that extent animals have souls, albeit lesser ones than humans (my dog can be bad or good to an extent, a horse can too, but it's not the same as a human being, which is why we don't consider animals to be moral actors.)

It is harder to leave an abusive relationship if you're pregnant or have kids. They are right about that. Needing to escape an abusive relationship is a pretty common reason for abortion (and I've seen plenty of women say they wouldn't have been able to escape if they didn't get an abortion).
