I actually agree with the Romanian here. The falafel protesters are exercising their 1A rights. It is a racist and retarded exercise of rights, to be sure, but as Americans we cherish the freedom of speech/assembly, no matter how racist and retarded.

There are probably some technicalities that the police could exploit to demand that the protesters go home, but it didn't even come to that. They left on their own after a few stupid chants, with minimal vandalism. Pretty tame, all things considered.

I don't mind if they get fined for the stickers they applied or whatever they did, graffiti etc.
There has to be a clear boundary between "we use our speech and express out opinions" and "we're shitting up your place sweep it up janny". Also police should've made sure that they do not block traffic and pedestrians.
My country (somehow) has not followed the Western example and did not forbid pro-Palestine protests. Maybe cause tiny Arab population. Instead, our secret service checked every participant lmao, and one of them, a "German" was declared persona non grata and will likely face expulsion cause "proof for self-radicalization" was found.
Generally I'm very skeptical of anything that's sold as "rights", but if somebody is trying to project righteousness cause they have a free society, you better be consistent at it or I'll mock you for sure.

That was always the point of the 1A, to protect comfy, uncontroversial speech that challenges nothing and serves to shelter the people with money and power. It's what they teach in school.

Sir, this is a falafel shop. The first amendment protects free speech and right to an opinion. It does not protect a bunch of tards who want to harass a falafel shop owner. There is a line between hate crime and free speech and this is it. It'd be no different if a group of white people beat a random homeless nog to death because they have problems with Crips. You guys just seem to be letting your hatred of God's Chosen cloud your judgement. When it's your turn to be protested in front of your shop, you sure would want the cops to put a stop to it.

Not according to the unanimous Supreme Court there isn't. The term "hate speech" is completely legally meaningless. There is no "hate speech" exception.

Matal v. Tam, 137 S. Ct. 1744, 1764 (2017) (“Speech that demeans on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, disability, or any other similar ground is hateful; but the proudest boast of our free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express "the thought that we hate." United States v. Schwimmer, 279 U.S. 644, 655, 49 S.Ct. 448, 73 L.Ed. 889 (1929) (Holmes, J., dissenting).”).

As in any protest in an urban area, there can be reasonable time, place and manner restrictions. They can't physically prevent people from entering or exiting the establishment, or utter actionable threats, assault people, and could be kept back from the premises some distance by barriers or prohibited from using electronic amplification at ear-shattering volumes.

They can't be prohibited from the protest itself no matter how senselessly idiotic it is, though.
