I'm not really one for pearl clutching and I will concede with you that perhaps they're not the exact same mindset, but let me restate what I'm getting at because I do see at least some similarities:
- monkey fuckers: deliberately seek out and pay for violence against animals for their personal pleasure/gratification
- zuckerberg: create a giant social media platform and focus on profits so hardcore that you deliberately ignore all warnings about it contributing to things like genocide and whatever else (including monkey fuckers) and somehow be totally ok with yourself and sleep fine at night and to the bare minimum (if anything) to make any changes
and I'm not mentioning Zuckerberg as just a "billionaire bad" kind of thing, but there does come a point when you have to ask yourself how someone like that can sleep knowing the harms they have caused with seemingly no regret (and I'm mostly talking here about the outright harms like contributing to genocide and less about "le social media is bad for teenagers")
I mean I can't be the only noticing that several of the perpetrators in this very thread used Facebook groups as a communication tool. Like not even Kiwifarms allows alogging but I guess Facebook does?
But the involvement of social media in this story and its general role in society and the internet itself is a really thorny, complex issue whereas the monkey fuckers is a much simpler one.
