I pretty strongly advocated for legalization most of my life. Over the years I’ve come to a few conclusions:
1. “Reefer Madness” is obviously a piece of propaganda, but there is some mental health danger involved with pot under certain conditions. Essentially, when there is very heavy use going on at the same time as other mental health issues are bubbling up. The paranoia can spin out of control into panic attacks and the minor hallucinatory effect seems to get multiplied when psychosis is otherwise bubbling up.
2. Driving/Operating heavy machinery on pot is a really bad idea. It’s more subtle impairment than alcohol but it’s there. I jokingly call it the effect where you end up waiting for a stop sign to turn green, but that sort of weirdness can go really bad at speed.
3. I didn’t anticipate legalization would include the super high potency distillates. They can really lead to overuse easily.
I still think legalization is the way to go, but now that the process is underway, the industry behind it and other advocates should try not to undersell potential dangers and I think there should be some discussion about if the super high potency vapes should be allowed.
Personally, I like the pot-lite experience of delta 8 right now and I also enjoy how cheap it is.
