SMELLS LIKE LITTLE BITCH IN HERE, GIT GUD SCRUB, I'M PLUNGING LONDO INTO DARKNESS AND I'M COMING BACK INTO NG+ TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME.
THIS TIME, I'LL USE THE WHIP BUT YOU'RE PROBABLY INTO THAT SHIT.
To be fair, Team Usher the World into Unending Darkness is so bad at arguing their side of things that it usually just boils down to, "no trust me bro, the universe is cyclical and mom God said its our turn to use the xbox run the universe".
So your options are A. Not fuck everything up for no benefit. B. Fuck everything up for no benefit.
I don't think it was really morally right or wrong for him to end the Age of Dragons, as I always felt that was more of a natural progression of one cycle giving way to another, but I'm sure the dragons would disagree. Trying to prolong the Age of Fire by sacrificing himself was noble, but it was ultimately futile, since the First Flame doesn't seem to really be "designed" to be eternal, and so while it might have been done for the benefit of his kingdom, or even humanity, it was really an example of someone overthrowing the old order and then refusing to allow the same to be done to him, even in the natural state of things. It's part of what makes Gwyn a sympathetic character, even though his true motivations aren't totally clear.
At the same time, there's a reason they're called Dickwraiths. Kaathe and the boys all come across as entirely self-serving (but maybe all the Serpents are), with the choice of preying on others and outright stealing their humanity promoting a Might Makes Right system in the hypothetical Age of Dark that seems similar to what you get in the Chaos paths in SMT games, where it's basically an endless struggle for survival with the most powerful beings devouring everything weaker. Which, while abhorrent to modern and civilized sensibilities, does effectively return to the most natural state possible, effectively closer to animals than an ordered civilization.
Then there's also the question of what an Age of Dark might even look like, given the state of the abyss and how it's almost formless. Part of me hoped DS2, with its early previews emphasizing light and shadow, would explore something like that, but then we just got something closer to a Demon's Souls or King's Field sequel than a direct continuation like DS3, which showed off the effects of continued rekindling by way of sacrificing undead and how tossing fragments of the lord soul every X years just resulted in the whole universe collapsing in on itself and rotting away like a living corpse. It's ultimately unsustainable.
Ultimately, I think the real question is wt ring u got bithc?
