cheddarheads desperately writing an explanation to how the outside of the river delta and an inland port thousands of miles up river are the same so they can pretend it's not easier to import foreign cheese to pennsylvania

pennsylvania is also one of the largest amish populations, whose people are more likely to actually make cheese.

I'm not even sure what people are arguing about. If you genuinely think the American cheese selection is comparable and that most americans actually have access to quality groceries, I hope you continue to live in this blissful ignorance for the rest of your life.

bonus rant: America has extensive navigable waterways in the US that are not used over trucking because we ban non-US home port boats from navigating our waterways, and almost all transportation companies with ships home in Liberia or some other shithole. Just about everything about the US could be better if not for the leadership and unaware population.

What's your favourite dish at Olive Garden?

I have gotten into borderline violent political arguments and it was funny. I have had people threaten to murder me to my face and it was hilarious, I have argued with communists, psychos, pedophiles, people who I have good reason to want dead. Yet for some reason I never got truly mad during those arguments. But here? In the cheese thread? I am livid. The cheese question and nulls position makes me furious. I was eating a tasty burger last night as my people are want to do and all I could imagine was some Frenchmen trying to smug at me about baguettes and sheep's cheese and it almost ruined my burger.

This thread and this subject makes me mad at the Internet for reasons I can't even describe.

@Null I concede to the bread argument, its hard to find fresh good bread. And the meat thing I just dont know enough about to question. But cheeses, America has lots and lots of options everywhere. These are examples from just the last 3 days.
I think part of the reason Americans can’t “win” the bread argument is that the food culture surrounding bread is much different than it is in Europe. In Europe, you’ll get higher population densities in many countries despite the smaller population overall. The United States also has way more spread out populations than what you would find in the average European country. This usually results in people needing to travel further to the grocery store depending on the area, and due to such efforts, getting bread with longer shelf life becomes preferred.

Also, a lot of those towns were established way before cars, and therefore, it is laid out to be easy to walk from your home to the local bakery to get bread daily. The only types of cities in any way comparable to what Europe has are places like NYC and Boston. So many cities in the US only became cities in the 19th and 20th centuries. Meanwhile, places like Rome have been considered cities for well over a thousand years. The general layout in many US cities is more car than pedestrian friendly, so getting all your grocery shopping done on foot isn’t very common. That, alongside the cultural norm of most people just going grocery shopping once a week, or twice a week at most. Daily groceries just aren’t really a thing for many people.

It’s definitely not impossible to find bread that meets Null’s requirements, but they aren’t as convenient to just getting everything you need at a grocery store. In Mesa, Arizona, there is a company called Proof Bread that sells freshly baked bread every day, but you have to go early in the day to get the best bread, and it closes earlier than most grocery stores. Due to both distance and higher price point than what I’d normally pay for bread, I’d maybe only go there if I was making a recipe that required extra fresh bread, or for holiday/party situations where you want to impress people with high quality bread.

I just think it's funny because in my head I'm just hearing "pull up! pull up!" in Jersh's voice in a glorious fit of irony as the corncobbing continues.

No it's because they put sugar in their bread. Yuck!
Sugar is a natural preservative. People in my country like things with longer shelf life, so adding that extra sugar helps keep it better for longer. Even back in the 19th century, Americans added more sugar to their bread to help it last longer.

america consists of utah, idaho, nevada, arizona, and 46 coastal states.
Thankfully the Colorado River covers all of these but Idaho.

Thankfully Idaho is covered by the Columbia River so the entire continent is full of coastal states.
