Feedback Delete Events & News

I hate this. And I myself was an avid poster of the Lugenpresse and events and news, and I did not see all the drama and acrimony you guys are talking about.

Null got rid of the negative ratings in events and deep thoughts because he wanted people to just say what they think. It was a great idea, and it worked. Granted, news isn't as lulzworthy as Phil, but there were some genuinely insightful, :informative: and brand-spanking new facts on there that I never knew before that always left me feeling both entertained and enlightened.

I think the big pile up of recent TR1GG3R3D people was just that: a pile up. It has only happened once so far, and to ground the events and news forum for a few people that don't know when to press the button in the top right corner of their screen is ridiculous! It was a hiccup, nothing more.

You didn't need to nuke the forum, because we already have this, https://kiwifarms.net/threads/interpersonal-drama-how-to-handle-issues-with-others.14017/ to help combat cancerous users. And if all else fails, we have the almighty banhammer, do we not?

At the risk of sounding like Chris, please fix immediately.
 
I think this is a bit too unilateral. There were threads at the time of it's demise that were perfectly alright. I propose the following as a guiding policy:

  • The appointment of a dedicated Events and News supervisor.
  • A "zero-tolerance" application of shallow thoughts.
  • Moratorium on all Trump-related news until the 20th of January.
 
The main problem is that the forum showed a clear inability to segregate political disagreements from their behavior outside of Events and News, and the political nature of the board began tainting everything else to the point where people were literally asking for a Donald Trump lolcow thread. The 2016 election has made everyone lose their fucking minds and it's ruining post quality and community cohesion. I thought after the election it would de-escalate but people are every bit as aggressive as they were before.

If Events an News comes back it'll be with some weird quirk or caveat, such as no US News. Even then it won't solve the original issue.

I disagree. India's development into a regional superpower is something worth watching, though it's dismal sanitation has kinda overshadowed the country as a whole.

I think this was the right decision to make. Politics is the death of comedy and the whole point of lolcows is to laugh. You could honestly go further and kill all political discussion on the site, and I'd be down for that too.
 
There was a real tendency towards groupthink and pretty much ever thread devolved to "GRRRR GONNNA STRANGLE THAT CLINTON!!!" So yeah, nothing of value was lost.

Honestly... I'm kinda with Null on this one. The election was a shitstorm of epic proportions to begin with, but with Trump winning and the collective REEEEEEEEing from both sides just got to be way too much, to the point where some users (myself included, I admit) were maybe 1-2 posts away from becoming halal and the entire subforum itself becoming a mix of Tumblr and Community Watch. I mean for fuck's sake, just look at the last attempt at an Alt-Right general thread. That went to shit faster than you could say "Don't call anybody".

I'd say a moratorium on politics would probably be the best, if also nuclear option, but there's some threads, lolcows, and subforums that have heavy political bents to them; banning Trump, Clinton, alt-right, and SJW/alt-left BS would effectively make those ghost towns.

Well that's because it was intentionally designed to be as shit as possible. I should really ban everyone involved but I just don't care enough to.
 
Well, shit. And here I was thinking that I got banned for some shit and the mods didn't tell me. RIP Events & News. You will be forever missed. Now I'll have to get my news from somewhere else. :/
 
Just bring it back with the only rating available being autistic. It was the my favorite board.
