Yes, Spongebob and this anime chick are dating. But like most sequels made by some one else, it's not as good as the original and really drags in the middle. But he actually manages to save it in the end.

There's also going to be a third installment that ties the two together but considering the previous two had a two year gap in between them, I wouldn't expect it to drop anytime soon.

My guess is that they can use it as an outlet to express their pedo tendencies. And they can hide behind the excuse of "It's just a drawing! It's just fiction! It's not like I molested a child or watched CP or anything !!11!!!!!11", when they get called out.

It's really easy to get the mods to excuse it away as long as they can say something like "Well they're not human so they can be older than they look." You don't even have to go full furfag even, just add a basic supernatural element and the mods won't care, no matter how much it's reported. I've not only seen this documented, but witnessed it myself.
