So looks like DMC will be getting a series by Adi Shankar, the guy who did the Netflix Castlevania series. What I don't get is this bootleg multiverse thing. I really can't see a way of tying the two series together that would make any sense. While I liked the Castlevania netflix show, and wouldn't mind a standalone DMC one, the idea of this multiverse just seems unnecessary.

That was made before Devil May Cry 3 came out and changed everything.
No, the anime was released in 2007, at least several years after 3.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a new animated series. This guy actually knows what he's doing for one thing, and for another it can drum up more excitement now that the series is getting back on track after being MIA for 5 years (10 if you ignore the reboot).

Means edgy-DMC2013-donte-reboot quality writing is returning.
You know what would hurt, if the animated series turned out to be based of the DmC reboot. Although even if its not, I suspect you are right with the show writing probably aiming to be more edgy and less stupid campy fun like he original dmcs tended to be.

Didn't the reason why the Castlevania reboot happened was that the original timeline of the OG Castlevania ended in like the 1800s cause there wasn't any more of the timeline Konami could do about it. (Though recently a new main Castlevania game was announced for iPhones in Japan and does take place in our timeline where the Japanese government had to be involved in this. And plays like the old classic OG Castlevania from the PS1 era.) So that's why people were sad when they announce the reboot and even then that did not give the series new hope. Though thanks to the Castlevania animated series on Netflix? I think it'll be a good idea to pull off a DMC animated show. Maybe we can also get this guy to do an animated version of Soul Eater and this time finally get the series to end for good.

Not quite. Portrait of Ruin takes place in 1944 during World War II, which is pretty close to modern times all things considered.

One thing that's interesting to me is that Castlevania and DMC are owned by different people; the former is owned by Konami and the latter is owned by Capcom. I'm not saying that collaboration between studios is totally out of the question, especially in Capcom's case considering some of their biggest games are crossovers. I think it's actually kinda cool that they're allowing this.
