Devon Del Vecchio / "Dev" / ShortFatOtaku / @sleepy_devo - Degenerate loser, honorary whiteknight for Lilith Lovett, constantly at odds with his own viewers for being a centrist

Dev has been on a role this week. The title alone should tell you this is gonna be retarded
Watched the video, and Dev is basically right. You can spin almost any media to right win, left wing, or whatever wing with a little effort. But the video didn't need to be an hour long. I think it could be edited down to 10-20 minutes.

I dunno if it'll ever be possible for a documentary on the whole thing with correct information on it to ever surface. At least not for the foreseeable future.
I doubt it will happen in the future either given how much has been scrubbed from the internet.

I trust dev's interpretation of anything to be bloated and thick with waffle. I haven't and don't plan to watch the video so I might be missing the context but if his point is that you can spin any media any which way so there's no such thing as a right wing (traditionalist) or left wing (progressive) media, then that is retarded.

You can spin things whichever way you want, but at the end of the day actual real world result and the framing of the media will reveal what it is about and what it "supports". Sometimes that is the intent of the author, sometime it is not.

As some guy said in the women hate thread recently, gamergate was what happens when male gamers treat female gamers like they treat others - with rape threats. This coupled with the biggest media industry giants falling squarely on one side of the """issue""" is basically all that mattered about goymergoyt. Everything else is so much grifting from both sides with retards like sargon, ralph, anita, zoe, and so many others. What a waste of energy.
It was a giant nothingburger. But we all know how people acknowledge that women are equal until they need protection, then they're helpless victims that need protection from the simps that didn't bother to look at the situation before letting their biases (that are still trapped in the 1960's) take over and judge the whole stupid fucking thing.

It's not quite that. He does mention games like Disco Elisium that clearly have an ideological bent.

What he's on about are games that don't have an obvious ideology being given one by various political factions. Like with Zelda. The left says it's about overthrowing the monarchy because Ganon is a king, but the right says it's about restoring the monarchy because after Ganon is killed princess Zelda returns to power.

Or various Japanese games where you kill god, with American lefties seeing that are pro-atheism/anti-Christian, but to the Japanese killing god means something completely different.

And the context. The left made a list of "transcore" games like Celeste and Fallout New Vegas. When a "conservative" parody of it appeared, various leftie YouTubers/TikTokers had a melt down over it. Eventually accusing the right of being media illiterate.

It's annoying how he constantly recycles his shit. Look, I know the Serfs are idiots, I'm sure they are on Vidya too Dev. I don't need to hear about Zelda again. That's another thing, does this man play any other games? He seems to have is own autistic old catalog, and only rarely plays new shit. Get with the times if you're gonna make criticisms on modern gaming. there's still bangers out there, just less so.
If you are interested in what game he plays check his gaming channel.
Edit: he played zelda and disco Elysium 2 and 1 month ago.

What does killing God mean to the Japanese, anyhow? That's such a common trope in their videogames, there's got to be some cultural context there.

Dev mentioned it in the video, people rose up and killed other people that had risen to god-like status, it's not so much that they are literal gods but can be almost like it. That was always my understanding of that bit of jap culture, their gods are more like insanely powerful deities than anything else.

Shintoism is basically animism and ancestor worship. If you don't venerate the spirits of your ancestors then you dishonor them n shieet nigga. Japs who make jrpg where teenager kill god are rebelling against this because there are so many gods in Japan that its oppressive to them. Compared to the relatively toothless incarnation of modern day Christianity in the west.

TLDW: The fanatical religious fervor of WW2 Japan was repurposed into devotion to one's employer, and the artistic kids who didn't fit into corporate culture brought their critique of the system into manga/anime/Video games/etc but with a general tendency towards subtlety in allegory instead of "corpo bad".

Sometimes it is about Christian influence. FF has some (even if minor) Christian thought like Jenova = Jehovah.
(there also Kabbalah which is a form of Judaism)

SH hides its situation under a western church with Christian influences to its aesthetic (the game takes place in America, makes sense).

Persona literally has Satan.

The biggest, and best, example I can think of is Shadow of the Colossus. It’s basically an interpretation of the Tower of Babel section of the Bible. The main villain is named Dormin (Nimrod backwards), the world had a huge event happen to it that reshaped it (said to be a natural disaster that reshaped the topology of that world), and the Colossus were seen as gods. The people who became the Dormin, hunted down the “gods” and killed them (they blamed them for the event), and in the process became powerful and a “god” themselves.

Other times, it’s as others have stated. It’s not one size fits all.

Ah OK. I know he plays Mass Effect, which I'm fine with, I've played that, I think he played thru Andromeda as a challenge, which I mean why bother. He did play forespoken, which he made a video on, but I didn't need a full breakdown to know that this game exclusive to the PS5 only because it's code is so shit it won't run on anything less, is bad.
They were on good terms before the podcast. I remember her saying she liked dev but she didn’t like the people he surrounded himself with(DFD).
I'm getting two stories here, so I'm just taking everything with a grain of salt

There are a lot of beliefs as to why, but the most popular are that it's a way of coping with forces impossible to fight due to how rigid and oppressive Japanese salaryman culture can be, and it's much harder to fight an abstract notion of the daily grind you can't escape than something like a god which you can give physical form to.

That or Japan has always had a lot of strife, whether it's the unforgiving environment of the land itself to their encounters with outside forces where the first time the west was essentially taken seriously by Japan was when an American admiral showed up with cannons blazing (with blanks) in the middle of the night and told the Japanese to listen or get fucked, which eventually lead to the Meiji Restoration I believe as well as Japan going from a feudal society to an industrial one in breakneck speed. Then there was the whole getting nuked twice which was ultimately represented by GODzilla. In Serial Experiments Lain god is pretty much created by the Internet and technology, so it's clearly not god as in a religious sense but one created, and in many ways can be said to reflect how troons use the Internet to cripple society.

So in short, it's Japan's way of both showing people can become gods (as many gods in Japanese media are man made) but that the people can also overcome what is supposed to be impossible to overcome. Think of it more as Leonidas injuring Xerxes to show that even gods can bleed as opposed to some direct hatred of the concept of religion in most cases, though Japan has had issues with cults (Shinrikyo) so there's probably some distaste of those as well, and even Shinzo Abe supposedly belonged to a predatory mega church which is why the one guy shot him as his family lost everything to that specific church.

Also, you're welcome SFO, I just wrote one of your shitty videos for you.

Weird cause me being the philosophy faggot, I always saw the JRPG levelling quest system as a representation of apotheosis in a very atheist sense. Again Im gonna jack off Nietzsche here like I always do and say that the whole idea of killing god in games comes from the idea of becoming one as replacement, ie apotheosis, which the practical case for comes from Ubermensch theory where Nietzsche states that becoming a godly superhuman requires constant grinding and embrace of fragility. Pretty self explanatory in an JRPG context if you ask me, the idea of constant grinding and experiences making a person skilled enough to become the strongest entity in the game universe. Its also partially why most JRPG characters start from 0 as unexperienced kids. Ofc Dev wouldnt know that cause hes a tranny chaser twitter politiks person, at least Sargoy reads theory and can say something, SFO has to be hip and cool with the zoomie kids by talking like a retard on camera.

Well, there it is. Enjoy.
Brianna Wu has been on a bunch of shows recently, including Timcast IRL, but I have to ask, why does anyone bother talking to him? What has he ever done besides have a failed political run and whine about Gamer Gate? Does he even have an audience at all or is it all nostalgia from the glory days of Don Sargon?

It's his new grift. He's trying to position himself as an enlightened centrist, or at least a leftie that's open to "having discussions".
