Legit question to all post to this thread. What could Dev do to help stop all the hate? Is there even anything he could do? Are all of you so tunnel visioned on your hate for him? Is there anyway for him to dig out of this? Also why is he considered a backstabber? I'm legit asking.
Honestly, I'd consider myself amongst the most charitable on this thread for Dev, and I figure part of the reason for that is he is barely within my notice, so I've mostly just ignore much of the stuff others talk about. On top of not having a twitter account, so the only times I ever see anything is if I see it here or as random tweets on some discords I'm in.
That said, from the videos I do watch and the tweets I DO see, some of the things that grate at me:
1) Constantly trying to both-sides an issue or go for some form of "well, the Right does THIS, so..." Which is especially infuriating in certain cases where the two comparisons may not be accurate with one another. For example, the J6 riots can be compared to the BLM riots in the sense of "well, they're both riots"; however, outside of that, it would be much, MUCH easier to argue that the BLM riots were worse in pretty much every way, and comparing the two is like comparing the man who slaps you vs the man who beats you half to death with an iron rod. And again, this is for a specific example; I'm pretty sure if I went through many of his videos, I could find many other such equivalent examples.
2) He is WAY too forgiving when it comes to subversion. I've mentioned it before, but there's way too many times where he goes "It COULD be malice, but just as likely it could be stupidity or being out of touch.", when it seems pretty clear it's likely malice/subversion given the people doing it. He really needs to stop doing that.
3) He has said beforehand that he's autistic and that he doesn't take Twitter seriously, which means the shit he says on twitter isn't the best. That still doesn't excuse the absolute retardation he's posted there on times and he can't get mad at people shitting on him there, because the "don't take X too seriously" can be thrown back at him. The man absolutely needs to work on his messaging, or not get ass-mad when people get mad at him for it.
4) His over-reliance on what is the "official truth." I've seen him go for what the authorities say about something, even if the ground truth shows something different. Or going for sources biased to one side (99% of the time, the Establishment Left) without even touching on what the other side might say. In such cases, it really starts to come off as a "who're you gonna believe?
Me CNN or your lying eyes?" Which...in the current environment, I'd probably trust my lying eyes over CNN in 90% of cases. Especially since many lies seem to be "lies of omission" or other ways the news massages the truth, and people like Dev go for it, hook, line and sinker.
If Dev can at least try to work on these conditions, I figure his lol-cowness would decrease significantly, and it would probably prevent this thread from hitting 300 in a matter of months or so.
Hell, while looking at this thread, just saw this tweet chain:
This kinda explains the whole issue I'm seeing regarding Dev's works. The things where he says "it's ok to do this", he seems to mean 'I do not want there to be laws against it' which is significantly different to "I would be ok with it." In another line, he's arguing with someone over whether mocking someone's mother's death is the same as mocking George Floyd's death.
I don't think it'd kill him to be a bit more detailed there i.e. "I would not like someone mocking my mother's death. HOWEVER, from a LEGAL perspective, I would be against preventing them from doing that." Then again, this statement kinda lies with a LOT of people within that thread, because it's a whole mess of bad-faith interpretations everywhere. I get the feeling we're hitting the point where people need to start separating the differences between moral/ethical and legal when they say "is it ok to do X?"
Honestly, I kinda think Dev needs someone on the right to balance him, similar to how Dumping with Scrump used to be before Scrump fell head-first into troons and ethnonationalism, while the right-side of Dev's brain shut off due to lack of oxygen. He needs to understand that many actions can be called out as-is without trying to equivocate or pass them off as "not done maliciously." or however else he does it to try and mitigate the Left's follies; while being a lot more careful with his message, and really curating (or straight up deleting) his twitter, for everyone's sake.
Also, one last thing which can decrease the hatred: MAKE THE FUCKING TRUCKER VIDEO, GODDAMNIT. Don't wait for the news to come out with a whitewashed "This is how the truckers broke the law and were being racist, not just protesting!" Make it with what you can get.
