It breaks my heart. I have kids. I don't lack sympathy for these disaffected and socially stunted individuals who have been birthed into a nihilistic, postmodern, gender-confused hellscape of a world. I really don't. I wish I could understand how we get to this point though. Devon's not as depressing as our principals, of course, but there is still a specimen of the same kind of grandiosity and nihilism.
Comes from being raised with all this constant validation. Deprived of this constant reinforcement validation upon leaving childhood, Gibi chose to seek it through chasing Internet clout. He saw mild success and then this happened and he thought that he was big enough to handle it. But in fact he was already somehow involved himself due to getting too close to the story to begin with.
He's grandiose because he sees himself as some kind of gender-swapped
Harriet the Spy style of young journalist who happened upon a big story, nihilism because the values that the profession of journalism, which he aspires to, mean nothing whatsoever to him as in this saga he has already
THE JOURNALISM SINS OF DEVON JOHN, alias "GiBi," RAPIDLY IMPLODING YOUTUBER AND CHRIS-CHAN ORBITER
- got to close to source and reported without disclosing conflict of interest - could get him fired at a newspaper;
- failed too redact confidential information leading to the psychiatric hospitalization of a woman - this would be boardroom tier crisis as at a newspaper and he would never work in the field again.
- outright declined to read information contrary to his theories;
- was spun by a dumb-as-rocks psychopath to her own ends - would have to issue a correction at a newspaper which is a big deal, while Devon explicitly stated it was not a big deal.
- stated that a source had promised further leaks which she had not;
- repeatedly relied upon others, some with questionable motives, instead of using primary sources;
- boasted about having read a large archive of leaks when he had clearly not;
- outed another source when boasting on social media;
- misidentified said source as being authoritative in a manner that she was not;
I suspect we can keep going...
