Diablo 4 general - All shit will hit the fan this June

Game came up for free on PSPlus and I had friends who wanted to try it, so I gave the story a shot. I am someone who tries to play every game's story, and I can readily say that IV's is terrible. If all video game stories were made like that, I would've given up on singleplayer long ago.

From the Unpopular Opinions thread:

Diablo IV's story and all the quests that surround it might be some of the worst I've ever seen in an RPG. They're not bad in the sense they're bugged and unplayable, but it all plays like a giant male humiliation ritual.

This was never prevalent in the previous Diablos, and it was fine having female Blacksmiths in certain towns, female village elders and female-only classes, etc. Almost every quest and character in IV has this weird "man bad" shit about it: If you're hearing a journal entry from a man, 90% of them are about how they failed someone in their family. Almost every male character you come across is either a failure, a prick, an idiot, or a combination of all three. Lorath's a failed drunk monk, Donan's a failed, emasculated Horadrim, Inarius is a bitter idiot who is shown to be gullible and ignorant, the guard escorting Neyrelle is a corrupt idiot, that druid on the tree is a stupid, vengeful prick, and this goes on throughout. An argument between a man and a woman? Well, obviously the man's always wrong. A man is accused of infidelity? Well, he obviously did it and should die. A woman failed at something? Clearly a man set her up to this. A man figures out something? Well, he dies later on or fails to solve the problem.

It's jarring that it hops over to the other side and there's little carryover. Follow some woman as she seeks this brave woman crusader's armour, help the female exorcist with the awful accent as she overcomes demon possession with...plot armour I guess, complete your masculine archetype class quest by answering to the female Chieftain and her female subordinates, start off each new Season with a loredump on how the new female questgiver is so great at what she does and so heckin' wholesome. That is to say nothing of the dross that is Lilith and Neyrelle - the story tries its absolute hardest to make you think that Lilith is somehow a sympathetic character when she's a mass-murdering mother of demons with daddy issues whose only plan is subjugation. Neyrelle is a complete Mary Sue who inexplicably escapes Mephisto's possession without dying, just like that random witch gets to be possessed by Andariel and escape death.

The story sucks. There's no balance to this. It's very obviously overcompensation by Blizzard to counteract the sexual harassment lawsuit made against them, but it wrecks what was once a pretty decent story and universe.

TL;DR: Diablo IV is just so tiresome.

Chaotic PizzaParty was right, the story is extremely draining. So glad I never gave Blizzard money for this, and if it continues to be this bad I never will.

I got this in my feed
Whales might be the biggest abomination upon gaming that ruins everything for everyone. Though at least Gook Gacha gives you some hot woman/man to look at rather than this disgusting mess of equipment

I specifically try to xmog all my characters in all games as a low-level peasant. Sword/buckler as you tank the demigod threatening the world etc. I do quite enjoy a lot of the D4 designs but they're way too over the top and expensive, so I'm fine using low level sets.

I do a similar thing, most baseline armors. I stylized my barbarian to resemble the one from D2, and my druid looks like a druid. I cringe every time I see one of those faggots running around town in cash shop outfits of spiky plate armor and glowing wings. Partially because it looks like something a 12yo would consider cool, and partially because I can't even tell what class I'm looking at.

How bad does your game have to be doing to drop the most requested class at the beginning of a random season as a preorder for your next expansion 4 months away.

Received a Steam gift card and decided to pick up the Paladin. It feels really good. I never played whatever class came with the last expansion because it looked really queer to me, but paladin looks so slick in 4. I’m playing a Zeal build, throwback to what I did as kid, but Blessed Hammer is absolutely broken.

Zeal probably has one of the coolest animations in the game in my opinion, and it has a really satisfying sound that plays when you hit an enemy. This low thudding noise. It’s awesome.

I’m actually having quite a bit of fun with this. That’s a weird sentence to utter

I have a physical copy of Diablo 2 I just never got around to. If I installed it, would Blizz let me play the original, or would they force me to play the "new" version?
Late but I've been playing the classic D2:LOD (I think it's 1.19) for the last couple weeks because my computer can't run the remake and it still seems to work. Battle.net still works to in some aspect because I can connect to it in game without having the client/app open. I just play online in private games by myself but there seems to be a few games up at any time so there's some activity still.

Since I'm done with the new season already I decided to check out paid cosmetics and instantly got angry at the omnipresent ornate edgyslop. Let's play a game of "guess the class". Below you'll find pictures taken from the cash shop that shitzard specifically chose to represent random cosmetic bundles. Your job is to guess what fucking class they're for.

I'm enjoying 4. It's nice to jump in each season for a month. I'm not trying to theorycraft with a spreadsheet so I don't play POE2.

My big complaint is that cosmetics are so expensive. I would've whaled this if they were normal priced at half.

Story: "Duurrrrrr Lilith returned, she was always right. #BelieveAllWomen"

Fuck this story can't stop being shit.
duh she was always "right" about the Forces of Evil are coming to super-rape Humanity to death, did you play the games, do you have any idea about the basics of the settings, the pre D1 lore? any of it?

the game never justifies Liliths actions, but her point and goals are sympatico, because she's the only high tier entity that even has a single finger to lift to try and help out Humanity, the problem is, her "help" is horrific and inhuman, because despite how much she loves humanity (and how impossible that miracle is for something thats literally inherently Evilstuff) she's still a literal inhuman demon.

Since she's humanities origin point in this universe, it isn't like she doesn't have some sort of skin in the game.

They could've done plenty more than bring her back in the second expansion; it would be like bringing Diablo back again in 3 when the Necromancer was released, but her return doesn't give me much hope for the writing on this. I see Lilith in the same vein as Kerrigan, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they decide to make her destroy Mephisto for good and make her benevolent-god-being-who-can-do-no-wrong.

If Lilith is going to go the Kerrigan route, then which poor guy will get Tychus Findlay'd for it to happen?
