, I believe Lilith acheived the impossible in the very end and changed her nature, and this likely made her no longer a true demon, and probably died forever because of it.
I for one don't believe she has changed her nature, but she has always been for humans and always misunderstood because of her demonic nature.
Imo her seeming change seems to come from the fact that she met the protag of d4, and found hope in him.
You have to understand that before that, all she knows was Elias, whom she knows is selfish, but necessary to empower as humans against the tides of hell.
The evidence of her always loving(even if some blood needs to be spilled) and wanting the best for humans was her making that dagger for Rathma, she has made it before all these happened. She knew it is a weapon that can allow humans to ward off the prime evil, and it cost her part of her life force. Unfortunately, even Rathma doesn't believe on Lilith, and thus hid the weapon.
Then she met the protag, who was empowered, and fought with their lives against the prime evil and she found him/her worthy to sacrifice her life for.
That's why in her last moments her words were "I've fought for humanity all my life, and all I've got to show for it is you..."
In the choice between her life and empowering and protecting the humans against demons, she has always chosen the latter.
she was made specifically, and only, to massage the ego of Mephisto, to have someone who is "almost" smart and cunning enough to beat him, to give him a real run for his money in endless strategy, games, politics and battles, but likely just always "almost", she's a being instilled with pure Hatred from the Concept of Hatred, her Dad.
So yea, the fact she chose to love an Angel, then her Children, create a sanctuary for them, and dedicate her life, and her essence, and maybe even her existence so that they could possibly win the grand battle against the forces in the Universe is a big change, Rathma was convinced she was doing it all for herself so she could beat Mephisto or something.
Still chugging along on this vanilla story and apparently they invited the WoW writing team to write quests for Diablo 4. At least I assume, because the Meshif quest fucking reeks of Retail WoW's body odor. The stupid running gag where Meshif mistakes Lorath as Deckard Cain (get it? because they look the same and serve the same role LOL), the lol teh randum dialogue with Meshif wanting to go back because he forgot a pipe back home, Elias constantly expositing his motivations and combat taunts while I'm folding him like a lawn chair, and Lorath explaining to me like I'm five why taking this macguffin is important. The rest of the game isn't written this way, so I know they brought someone over from Retail WoW to write this quest because he has no idea who Meshif was back in Diablo 2 and his fucking brand of comedy is cringe worthy. Writing's been hit and miss so far, but even the worst bits are nowhere near as bad as this quest was.

Well, I finished vanilla Diablo IV's main story and Neyrelle's character really shits the bed for me to the point where Vessel of Hatred is already off to a bad start. Essentially nothing got accomplished in the end except now we're enemies of a state, we've unleashed a diablo equivalent to a nuclear weapon on Sanctuary, Lilith isn't dead (technically), and Neyrelle is off doing god knows what without any help from any of us. That and the trailer unveils that we'll be focusing a lot more on Neyrelle as a character going forward and she even says the most uninentionally funny line of "I think you're right... I might need help." I burst out laughing when I heard that. Also now her voice actress suddenly has no idea how to portray the character anymore and she's giving a worse and even whinier performance than the original.
Look, I understand the Mephisto and Lilith conflict had no victory, but taking a soul gem and running off and embarking on a dangerous trek when you're that young, even to a teenage me at the time, seems like a terrible decision. We can't blame this on corruption either because Lorath's words were that it takes a while for that to set in. I don't know, this is not off to a good start and it's not a good ending to Diablo 4 either because it just exists to sequel or expansion bait.

Ya have to understand, this whole situation was carefully engineered by Mephisto, he knew the only option was Stoning him and defeating lilith, because he made sure of it.
Neyrelle is simply the Marius of the game, like I said.
Well, I finished Vessel of Hatred and I didn't think you could write worse than Chris Metzen or write a story even worse than the entirety of Diablo 3 vanilla, but the writer who left the project after Vessel of Hatred's release managed to do it. I know she wrote this because its utterly transparent this is all her work. From the characters explaining out loud their emotions and STOPPING THE FUCKING GAME TO GO ON TEMPER TANTRUMS OR EMOTIONAL OUTBURSTS FUCKING HELL, to Neyrelle's character arc in its entirety, to Eru's betrayal that comes out of nowhere and had no set up whatsoever and feels way out of character for him, and to this shitty ending where Neyrelle basically knocks him cold and goes on a long soliloquy about how killing him isn't what Akarhat wanted and that we should just let him find forgiveness himself. Never mind that we don't know where Akarat's body is and Mephisto could use it to take possession, never mind that Mephisto at any point could launch a surprise attack against Kurast, if we don't want to kill this guy, why don't we take him back up to the city to face justice?
And then we have fucking Neyrelle. My god, I've never played with a character that is more annoying than her ever. Every character from Goodbye Volcano High, Wuk Lamat from fucking Final Fantasy XIV, even Dustborn's characters are way less insufferable as her. From the annoying emotional outbursts she has that artificially kill the pacing just so our character can give her a pep talk or give her a short therapy session, from the obnoxiously forced and stupid choices she makes that leads to other characters getting killed or bad shit to happen (I mean Vessel of Hatred's whole premise was built on a bad choice she made), the fucking temper tantrums and blame she throws on us which is totally not an euphemism for the writer's BPD or some other mental illness she has, the story constantly revolving around her giving me the impression of narcissism, and the poor fucking actress who had to work with this character and was given this bad of a script of her constantly crying, whining, and bitching and that's all she can do with her.
This whole story was just the writer's personal exploration of her own narcissistic perception of her own mental illness. We can throw as much copium as we want thinking this was just some Marius stand in, but I don't think the writer knew who Marius even was or what core function he served in the story. Neyrelle is basically just the writer's tumblr OC and she really wanted to explore her own spoiled "personal turmoil"... which probably gets no more important than YouTube comments or Twitter posts saying her do not steal OC is fucking annoying. I wouldn't even be surprised if this was supposed to be an euphenism for the writer's writing process where she's basically her own worst critic or something.
It's essentially a narcissistic exploration of the writer as a person who uses Neyrelle as a stand in and it's really fucking annoying. To the writer who will probably never read this, and I looked you up
(wow they even both look the same holy shit)
If you're really struggling that hard with your own personal existence, go be fucking barefoot in a kitchen somewhere making dinner for your kids while your husband goes golfing or something. Do not project your personal insecurities, your tribulations, and your "trauma" onto me through video game writing.
Fucking hell, sorry, I had to vent because that expansion made me fucking angry. It just felt like a waste of time. It was abysmally paced, it was long and repetitive, it was written in a juvenile, melodramatic, young adult novel way, god it just fucking sucked.

weirdly, its rather short, it just feels long because its retarded.
I agree with everything you said except Eru's betrayal, it makes sense in a way, dude feels like you are taking and taking from the things he loves, people, the Spirit Realm, that one SPirit Realm God, Maka everything comes at a heavy price for him and the reward is fuckall.
making a deal with Meph is simply fucking retarded, but Eru is struck with "Hatred"(TM) and thus may be susceptible to the Lord of it.
Thankfully Lord of Hatred was much better in every way and gets back to Lorath, a character people actually fucking like.
