ETA: The Bible verse he has tapped to the TV in this scene (Psalm 112:4) is "Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous." Do with that what you will.

I don't know if he's doing it as an edgy schtick or does he have some sort of actual obsession over death like Tomasz Beksiński, the son of the famous painter. I can give some lore on that later if you want.

Zdzisław Beksiński, the famous painter that made this among other well recognized pieces:

had a son. And there seemed to be a curse hanging over this family, because Zdzisław got murdered in his apartment in 2005, and Tomasz committed suicide in 1999.

Now, here's the thing with Tomasz. He was very talented and he was very knowledgeable when it came to the English language. He worked as a professional translator and all the Polish translations of Monty Python's Flying Circus were done by him for example so his work remains influential to this day since it's not easy to translate that and still keep it as funny as it is. But he was also obsessed with death. He would post obituaries about his death around his town, and all of this culminated in him killing himself, his obsession became fulfilled.

This is what I mean by hoping he's not like Tomasz, because all of this Rusty's obsession about death reminds me of Tomasz and it doesn't sit well with me. Rusty seems to walk a very fine line between fact and fiction to the point where you really start worrying about the state of his mental health.
