It amazes me how far YouTube has strayed from its original incarnation over the years. What was once a quaint video uploading site is now basically neo-TV where instead of people making content for hungry eyes to view, now it effectively became the new "rock star" career path. The ads are a byproduct of not just corporate greed, but also creator greed.
There's also the idea of hard-baking ads into the video stream that doesn't sit well either. A huge use to YouTube is short tutorials and videos that aren't the length of tv shows. In regards to the former, they already took away the ability to view dislikes (without a plugin) so now there could be wasted time clicking on a video that talks about the wrong issue or is completely wrong, AND more wasted time because you had to sit through a minute long ad break in the beginning.
I guess my question here, with all this being said, youtube was the primary choice for people over the years due to accessibility and choice. Is this enough for people to find that alternative they've been trying to create for years? Sure there were people trying to jump ship even 14 years ago, but back then, it was more in relation to TOS or shitty (albeit not as shitty) business practices. Even then, as trivial as those changes were, to my recollection, they were never this intrusive. Personally, I think a notable amount of people will leave over this. TYTD
