But saars, the we must get those 0.00001&% of users who use adblocker to watch the ads! They must redeem!

But seriously though, maybe only 0.01% of users at most even use adblocker. Everyone else I know is niggercattle that doesn't bother and just puts up with the ads, usually watching youtube on some shit smartTV too. Some idiot PM is thinking its worth the time and effort to catch these minority of users and make them watch ads, when all he is doing is wasting time and effort. I hope his managers realize this waste, but 🌈

Ok, faggot, I can tell that you've never actually had to work to achieve anything in your life. You're either an inexperienced bughive dweller, mommy and Daddy has always supported you, or you're an actual kid. For one, the whole "throw away and CONS00M!" mentality is what has fucked up the world in the first place
Don't even bother. He's older and iirc has a kid, he's just retarded and thinks if it happens a lot it's therefore good and what people wanted. Anything to deny any accountability for his actions, really.

I think maybe this guy is just like, some sort of paypig, but for large corporate entities. I know that the US says corpos are people, but you know that even if you pay them all this money you can't fuck them right? Well, he seems like a faggot, maybe he's happy that they're more than capable of fucking him

none of this other whining is related to your initial complaint of "having to buy wireless", which is something many people genuinely believe. you don't. adapters exist. it's an incorrect claim.
I shouldn't have to buy an "adapter" (it's adaptor, you dumb nigger) to use a IO post that's still in standard.
like you niggers completely skipped out on my second sentence to rage post. like sorry if you wasted money on wireless earbuds that you didn't actually want or whatever. just don't be incorrect about true facts.
And you skipped over the entire point of my original post which is that "companies push stupid shit onto consumers who often don't have much of a choice" in order to be a corporate dicksucker.
and, you know, to be quite honest, I do prefer the dongle. now I can get a DAC of arbitrary quality depending on my porpoise, and I can plug my phone into my car for charging + audio with just one cable. instead of two. it's pretty convenient actually.
Jesus Christ, how much extra work is plugging in two separate cables?

I'm wondering if uBlock Origin being open source is going to come back to bite them. It's the one that everyone recommends for YouTube, so obviously that's what the devs are going to focus on, right? Won't it be a problem if the YouTube devs can just look at the git to see how uBlock is getting around them?

80% of the ads I see on TV are selling porn, addictive unnecessary drugs, and gambling.
"Yeah that sounds right, same as the shit on the internet"
Also shitting in a box.
What? Nigga you can't just say something like that and not explain, what ads have you been getting for shitting in boxes?

A good point. I wonder if perhaps we'll someday see a 'mostly open source' type deal for things like it, where it sends a request to some opaque cloud service that does *something*, and you can see exactly what goes in and what comes out, but you don't know exactly how they're modifying what gets sent. Just so that you can confirm that privacy remains intact, but it can't be so easily reverse engineered.

But that does beg the question... if Google really wants a war against them, why haven't they done something like this already? Is it perhaps because uBlock is less popular than straight adblockplus and it's just under the radar?

You can now order an empty box with plastic bags and prestamped shipping to shit in for various stool sample tests, it's for old people and whatnot, and I presume is pretty convenient for them. Regular testing made easy for early detection etc etc. Probably a lot nicer than bringing a poop bag to your local doctor as well. Even if it may be a quality concept, there's tons of annoying ads run by medical companies that scream PAY US AND WE'LL SEND YOU A BOX TO SHIT IN! IT'S THAT EASY!

The future is now, I guess.

I'm both relieved it wasn't something worse and disappointed it wasn't something funnier. I was imagining some insane shit for pod-dwellers to compost to stock the bug farms, but this actually sounds like a mildly useful service.
The more you know, I guess.

Not really a good point. Being closed source doesn't automatically make your software immune to people reverse engineering it and figuring out how it works, and it's not like adblockers are some sophisticated black magic that people would have trouble working out. For a resourceful corporation like Google it would be nothing, and now you lose a few hundred autists who might have contributed to fighting on your side.

What I don't understand is why ads are so valuable. I have never seen a YouTube ad for a product or a service I would give any amount of money to. Who is buying what these scummy companies are selling on YouTube and are they really buying enough to justify selling the ads with such fervor? Seriously, has anybody here purchased something from a YouTube, banner, or pop-up ad? Is it boomers?
I’m sorry for quoting a comment so early in the thread but I actually know the answer to this. Marketers and advertisers actually have zero idea whether their advertising budget is generating sales or not but just in case it is they wouldn’t dare stop for a quarter just to test the theory. So they pump endless amounts of money into ads and they make sales but they can’t directly connect those two things. The only way they kind of have a sliver of a chance is through affiliate links and ad clicks on Google but that makes up such a low percentage it’s almost imperceptible and definitely not useful for making boardroom decisions. The only reason advertising exists is on a hope and a dream. The exception to this of course is boomers calling late night shows and buying TV garbage.

You using a Star Wars meme is appropriate here, because it's easier for us to understand why this simple thing goes over your head. Reverse-engineering something like uBlock Origin is trivial for a single experienced web developer even when he has no access to the server side of things. Google, obviously, controls the servers, and with data they have from that even a retard like you would be able to correctly determine the algorithm the extension uses to circumvent ads.

I already watch the ads it's only fair that YouTube get compensated for providing us all with so much free entertainment.
The issue is that they broke programs like yt-dl and yt-dlp. It's not even about the ads themselves; they don't want you to
have any video you download from YouTube locally and in close-to-original quality. Youtube Premium does not even allow you to download clips above 480p, and God only knows whether they tag those downloaded video files somehow if you were to share them.
Additionally, they're breaking hundreds of programs that rely on it because how-fucking-dare-you use our service for something
more than CONSOOOOMING. Want to archive a video clip that will most likely be deleted due to ToS? Fuck you, you're not supposed to watch it, you incel chud.
Chucklefucks are accelerating the death of the Internet (now virtually just FAGMAN), and they don't give a single fuck about it.

Same. I think it was Gabe Newell who said something along the line of if piracy in comparison is more convenient and is giving a better end user experience than your product/platform then your product/platform is shit.
Because it is a service problem. If Youtube allowed to download RAW/Uncompressed videos and tagged with original metadata, I would (most likely) pay for such a service. I hate Califaggots, but this would realistically allow for enhanced preservation of video content on the Internet. The paywall would probably also discourage pajeets and other subhumans from gaming the system,
as they usually do.

The problem is that they're just a bunch of malicious fucks that believe in servitude of consumers to fucking corporats; not
only will they offer an inferior product, they will also block off access to anything that does not suck cocks, period.

One of the worst parts of YT as a whole right now, especially with voice AI shit becoming popular. The amount of shit videos related to pop culture, from gaming to comics, i've clicked the past months just for them turning out to be AI slop (which i refuse to watch on principle) is maddening, you just know there's some filthy indian rubbing his grubby mitts over the dollars rolling in.

Bought one for my parents because I couldn't find a TV that was of an acceptable size and wasn't """smart""".
Luckily, all that """smart""" trash relies on having an Internet connection - and they can still be used in dumb mode without ever connecting to the Internet. Never connect to the Internet - here you go, problem solved, they can't pozload your negholep!

That's what i meant by "starting to work out". Some brands already do things like boot loop after a certain amount of time unconnected and there are patents out now for pushing ads through paused 3rd party content, like games and movies etc.

People won't take notice or care until it's too late once again... as evident by the reaction to my OP here and the thread in general. sigh

I'll give you hypotheticals instead:

Hypothetically, I opened a taco shop business it is great and doing well. Folks love the salsa I provide and wish they could have it buffet style to get as much as they want. However, I remain steadfast for health code reasons to not implement a salsa bar. People then ask if they can come behind the counter and get their fill of salsa themselves. I say no and get shot by an angry customer for denying them self service.

Hypothetically, I opened a taco shop business it is great and doing well. Folks love the salsa I provide and wish they could have it buffet style to get as much as they want. I cater to the wishes of the masses and add a buffet style salsa bar. It goes great until people start bringing outside containers and filling them with that salsa. I implement a paying customer only policy. This works until folks come to my shop, buy the cheapest thing on the menu and load up on salsa. I continue to implement strategies to combat this until the company account is dryer than Red Lobster. I then go jump off a cliff because "I will never financially recover from this."

What kind of wretched ghetto shithole are you living in where you would extrapolate not giving extra salsa to someone to then getting shot?!?!?! Your argument is absurd and nonsensical. But, for the sake of your argument I would choose option 3... Sell extra salsa for a few bucks a pop in a to-go drink cup, Because that's what the local Mexican food place around me does. But then again, that's a reasonable win-win scenario and not just an autistic scenario cooked up in someone's head.

A while back I got introduced to ReVanced. It worked great. I could finally turn my screen off and listen to YouTube while doing stuff with it in my pocket. Then it stopped working and I confirmed this with a couple friends. Had to update. This happens a few more times. Get a new phone more recently, decide to try Newpipe and already have Brave for ad free browsing. Newpipe stops working. Start using Brave, it still works. Now I know why Newpipe stopped working.

On the downloader spectrum of things, for years I swore by a simple app for Firefox called Easy YouTube Downloader. Sure 1080p downloads were locked behind a paywall I was never going to pay for, but I prefer 720p just fine when downloading stuff from content creators I enjoy for quality and space purposes. Then the MP3 conversion download option gets paywalled. Okay, I'll use another method for that. More recently, 720p video downloads were put behind that same paywall. I uninstalled it. Now, my dumb old ass still hasn't fully puzzled YT-DLP out, I'll give that a shot in the near future again sure. But for now I have a program called Tartube that I've been using on another site anyway, which saves YouTube videos, same quality, in webm format.

Now, the kicker is, some few months ago YouTube started doing something VERY drastic. If you were detected using an adblocker(I use uBlock Origin), YouTube gave you a warning and a three strike rule. You could watch three videos. Then YouTube prevented you from watching more until it couldn't detect the adblocker anymore. If I recall, some workaround got posted that involved Tampermonkey or some bullshit, but I'm too lazy to mess with that so I just did the next best thing. That download button is still there, if I can't watch the vids on YouTube I'll just download them and watch 'em offline just fine. Get fucked. Unsurprisingly I'm pretty sure I stopped seeing this happen, they probably figured out that preventing users using adblockers from watching videos on their site wasn't working. But boy are they still trying to make you turn off that pesky adblock.

When your TV or fridge breaks, do you open it and start pulling out compressors and cathode ray tubes? Or call the TV/fridge repairman?
Nice strawman. Us actually intelligent people do still look into broken equipment and diagnose it to save money first. Most of the time its a cheap fix you can do yourself
