If only it were that simple...it actually isn't. For example WLS patients almost always plateau for a few weeks at about 3 weeks post op, when they are still on very low calories (they can't even have solids by that stage). The human body likes equilibrium in many things, and weight is one of them. Starvation diets will seriously slow down metabolism, hence weightloss is not a linear thing. There will be ups, downs, and plateaus even if a person is strictly following a calorie deficit.
Okay, I was responding to a post that was talking about people who  don't want WLS. That's how you avoid a plateau in that instance. I wasn't talking about starvation diets either, I was talking about a basic cutting enough calories a week to lose around a pound a week, if you're adjusting your calories after 20 pounds of weight loss, you should only cut out about 50 calories and if you're already obese, cutting out 500 calories for a pound of weight loss a week isn't starvation. The less obese you are, the harder is can be, but if all you eat is processed garbage that doesn't fill you up, it's gonna be hard as hell, regardless of how fat you are.

Did you forget what thread you’re in? This is MSHPL thread where we’re talking about people who are specifically looking for WLS. Plus plateaus are unavoidable in any weight loss journey. Everyone who has lost significant weight over an extended time period (i.e. not your short term latest lose 10lb in 10 days fad diet) knows that plateaus are inevitable as the body adjusts to new eating/exercise habits. Plateaus and maintenance two very different beasts.

I'm not going to argue with someone who doesn't read my posts and is ignorant about things like TDEE and CICO. Not once did I mention anything about fad diets.
