Dooming is an easy, passive and lazy response to negative aspects of the world around us. This is because we let it weigh on our mind and attitude. Concern is like dooming as it is a response to negativity, but we actively think and react to the situation.

Dooming is self pity. Genuine concern is simply seeing things as they are and steering clear of obstacles.

I'm as pessimistic as they come, but I haven't eaten the barrel of a shotgun yet so I must still have some hope. I can understand feeling utter despair, but you have to learn to laugh at this shit as often as you can. Satire and reality are now one and the same.

Yep I always look at things in the bright side there's billions of people, the human costs will be high but history is full of rising and falling empires. As for me I can see that we can't simply trust our institutions anymore and expect a united america anymore.
As for humanity as a whole I'm more optimistic the cat is out of the bag, the internet may be getting smaller but there is always a better newer wild wasteland coming up.
Picture this Russian internet is the more free internet and web 3.0 is always 30 steps ahead of the governments collectively.

I don't concern myself with anything too much. I'll make the best of any circumstance. If the world goes crazy it will ge a good place for the sane to reap fortune. I just take care of myself and my own. Proverbs 22:6-6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. That's all I much care about now days.

Doomers are convinced of the hopelessness of a situation and push back against information that doesn't confirm it. They become addicted to their own despair and dire predictions and seek out narratives that reinforce it.

Concerned people keep their minds open and seek out accurate information regardless of what picture it paints and will reverse course if it does not confirm whatever their original stance was.

I think it depends on the end state posited by the person taking a pessimistic view of things. I doom post a lot, but I also think that the bad will lead to a positive outcome in the long run, though that's unlikely to be within my lifetime.

As others have said, dooming is when you've already chosen an outcome, and only accept information that affirms it.

Granted, people can be legitimately concerned about the same things as the doomer, and they might end up finding the situation to be hopeless as well. But they didn't go in looking for that. They just wanted to be informed, or even to find something useful. The doomer doesn't even try. He has given up and wants to be told it was the correct choice.
