Digimon

The first time I ever heard of Digimon was this random commercial for the pocket pet toy. The only thing I remember about it was an asian chick kept calling them "Dig-E-Mon".

I don't know if that was the original pronunciation that they quickly changed because they realized how dumb it sounded or what, but that random memory has stuck with me over the years for some reason.

Oh lol I was considering perhaps making a thread 'cause obligatory username, but this thread got resurrected like it was Myotismon, so never mind.

Anyhoo fuck yeah, Digimon! Next to Pokémon and Cardcaptors, this was my childhood. I was literally the only kid in my school who watched it (that I know of, not counting my brothers), so this was my special show. It went away after Frontier, though (and I never had cable), so for a time I actually did kinda fall out of it, but then I found some fansites and art online and realized I felt like a dick for thinking about abandoning it.

The Fox Kids website was kinda the bomb when it came it the Digimon Flash games, though. I remember having fun with them, but that "Quest to Save the Internet" would always crash my browser, so I couldn't save the Internet. :(

Fuck you, AT&T! And Explorer!

Anyhoo, my favorite thing about Digimon is the fact that the parents were treated like actual human beings and their children looked up to them. That was pretty rare for a '90s show at the time, I thought.

I was pretty pissed when they didn't really play a role in Tri. I wanted to see Hiroaki Ishida again, dammit.

Did anyone watch that reboot? Last I checked it had three episodes out and the rest got delayed for obvious reasons. It has potential, but the first three episodes were really weird, they tried way too hard to frontload some action to keep people engaged and ended up accidentally (?) recreating the second half of Our War Game before the characters even went to the actual Digiworld, so the power curve is already all fucked up. Also the soundtrack is kinda lame, yeah Brave Heart was way overused in the original but it was also really good, the reboot doesn't have anything like it.

Haven't seen the reboot yet, but haven't heard great things.

And the Monster Rancher game boy game was super fun.

I'm aware of the animes after Frontier, but can't fucking bother to slog my way through them (I started Savers, but dropped it for reasons and Xros wars just looks retarded to me, mainly the protagonist, so fuck that).

Despite being far from the first time the real world is threated by evil tamagotchis, the final arc of Frontier just seems like it couldn't be topped and I fell off.

Been meaning to watch Savers and actually finishing it, since trying to watch the reruns meant i always missed something.

Frontier was where I stopped caring back in the day. Started out too slow plus "wtf the kids are digimon? What are these autistic train digimon?" I remember being disappointed at Tamers at first because I thought season 3 would follow the 01/02 kids' children but I ended up really loving it. Frontier was a letdown and I just couldn't get into it.

Also Digimon gave me my first lolcow in the form of Mykan

The "Henshinmon" approach is not for everyone, surely, but I still liked it. It was a novelty and nothing more, but at the time it did it's job to hook me back in the franchise after missing most of Tamers.

Though, in hindsight, not having a Leomon die in it... can it really be considered a Digimon season?
I watched most of Tamers the other day! It’s so cheesy lol but I loved it as a kid
I remember thinking it was so silly... that's how it fools you into thinking you're safe... then the Devil Bike shows up.

It was ok but I'm still cautious of what will happen for the reboot. I just find it weird that within three episodes we'd already got a Mega already.

I'm holding off on it for the time being, but hearing about how condensed it is and that we already have Mega Digimon showing their faces makes me wonder what the fuck Toei is even doing. This is supposed to be a reboot, right? Things are already playing out differently from what I hear, but now, are the kids watching, and do they like it? This is the thing about Digimon, ratings just would get lower and lower every season. If the Adventure reboot isn't pulling in the numbers they want, what does that say about the franchise?

Tri apparently did well enough, but that was aimed at the adults who had grown up with the original series. The reboot's supposed to be directed at a new audience consisting of children. Are they able to keep up with it, or are they just not interested and it's only adults watching it?

I just wish they would've changed all of the voices, but outside of Gatomon Tailmon, the Digimon still have the same voices. If this is a reboot, that means wiping the slate clean. Just... Toei. Seriously, what are you even doing?

Did Bandai-Namco forget Digimon survives exists? like we haven't heard about that game in months.

Sorry to resurrect a semi-dead thread, but there isn't a related Digimon discussion place unless I go to the video games thread (Since Digimon is pretty niche to begin with, most kiwis probably wouldn't even know Digimon is still a thing).
