Digimon

Survive really shows how fucking boring they can make the digital world too
I liked the experiment though flawed. But it certainly did take it's time to get going and replaying it for branching purposes was an absolute pain in the ass missing a lot of QoL features that VN have had for years. I would love another attempt at a more "edgy" story where the digital world is proper lethal/scary, don't care of it's as a VN or any other form of game. I can live without branching paths if there is some proper lethality on display.

I also really appreciated that each of the kids had a proper link to their digimon. It's one of the main things I enjoyed from Digimon compared to pokemon, where outside of the lightning rat, everybody else is there for the ride but in Digimon, Agumon is your one and only true buddy that grows with you. I get why a lot of the digimon games go with the monster collector route, but I would like more "digidestined" games which seem like a huge rarity even if it's nothing edgy as well.

Surprised that those seem to almost never be a thing when the anime lives and dies on keeping the strong link between each character and their digimon.
Digimon fans are given basically fuck all and will take whatever scraps they get most of the time minus Appmon where they basically told old fans to go fuck themselves. Appmon is basically only remembered fondly by fujos, but is now being unearthed from the depths of hell for the Digimon TCG.
Pretty much, each game kind of does it's own thing while being a part of the digimon mythos. That they also come out so sparingly makes it almost seem like the Sonic franchise where they are unable to stick with a style (though without the high highs and the abysmal lows of Sonic)

What I want is a game that makes good use of both, switching between real world and digital world trying to solve problems on both sides.
Cyber Sleuth IS the only Digimon game I really liked so if this is similar I'll be happy

To be fair to survive it was about the kids trapped in the digital world not the digital world itself.

My problem with survive was that the SRPG elements were on par with a cheap mobile game.

That definitely did not help. The first playthrough on hard you could get some mild entertainment, but the moment you do a NG+ it's peak busywork, fights should have been outright skipable on replays.. I rather they either go full VN or dial back the VN aspect and just make a focused linear RPG. Though that's assuming they ever give it another go, I don't imagine it did gangbusters saleswise.

Hey, just a quick question but what was up with Digimon Survive anyway?

Do you mean development wise?
All we know is they had development issues as they wanted to make a budget game, wasn't possible, tried to not get the game canceled by Bandai, got new developers, had to change engines, and had to start from scratch.
Development hell basically.

I mean more in terms of the game itself, story and what not.

It's mostly a visual novel with some tactical rpg gameplay.
Some people visit a shrine and get trapped into the digital world; they also don't know it's a digital world or that digimon are digimon.

Bunch of teens go to summer school for different reasons, some want to make friends, some were forced and so on. One day they all go out on a field trip to some shrine in da woods, digital hilarity ensues and they end up in "the digital world" which is a spoopy version of their own world. This version of the digital world has some kind of fog that eats whoever goes inside it, so most of the early game is about the cast figuring out how to proceed, looking for other humans, etc. There's obviously more to it, but you have to unlock endings and alternate routes through multiple playthroughs, at least 3 or 4 iirc

With the improved graphics of Time Stranger is going for I hope that doesn't come at the cost of a smaller roster. The only digimon I saw in the trailer were the S1 classics but I hope we get an even bigger roster.

That being said I can't think of too many digimon I'm specifically hoping for. My tastes are pretty basic, give me ChaosGallantmon and I'll be happy.

I hope they add some of the new ones that have shown up in the TCG, Chaperomon, Shoemon, Cendrillmon and maybe some Appmons too now that Bandai seems to be trying to revive them and incorporate them into digimon

Music-themed?

Saw the beyond PV. Shame that had Kakudo stayed we could have gotten an interesting adventure series but instead we got tri, Kizuna, and Beginning.
I found the PV to be some of the best they have done with Adventure in decades. I don't know if that speaks to how well Kakudo "gets" Digimon or Tri/Kizuna/Beginning set the the bar THAT low.

Apparently, he's gonna better explain the background and setting for the PV later on so I'll be looking forward to that.

(Also if you can't understand what Iori was saying in "English" like me, the Japanese version of the PV has English/Japanese subtitles for the "English" dialogue.)

Wait, there's still another movie coming out? God-fucking-damn it, just leave Adventure alooooone. I don't care anymore about Kari's connection to the Dark Ocean at this point, no one understands anymore what Chiaki J. Konaka was going for with that, so just leave it alooooone. Unless this is a secret Wizardmon plot, stop it.

Thanks for remembering the Digital World is actually holographic-looking, though. That pissed me off about Tri so much among other things.

Well, at least we'll still get Joshua Seth as Tai for the dub...

Kakudo (Adventure director) has said that this was just a short music video and nothing is expected at this time.. That being said, the pv had more hype than anything shown, with the exception of when people thought Kizuna was going to retcon tri

I love these 3 mons, but i wish they would have picked newer or more obscure mons, i feel like they're failing to show how the IP has grown past Adventure, kinda like when Pokemon keeps bringing Charizard back
Yeah I like the contrast between Patamon and Demidevimon but I'd like them to expand it especially since they are focusing on the Olympus XII. That said if you pick Gomamon you're subhuman.

I've seen rumors that's the they'll be roughly 450 different digimon to pick through in it so it's definitely expanded from the I believe 380ish of HM.
