Digital Camera discussion - whats the best quality, whats a meme, whats netflix using or your favorite streamers? whats the best digital images you've seen and do they beat film yet?

I asked someone in the A/V industry and they said, “He should get the OBSBOT Tail Air AI-Powered PTZ camera and the Deity Microphones Theos Digital 2 Person Wireless Omni Lavalier Mic System. The Deity mic kit is more expensive but less likely to have dropouts and interference and the sound quality is better. If he needs cheap, the DJI Lav mic kit is about 1/3 of the price but uses the very crowded 2.4 gHz band.”

A Lav mic is the type of mic that you wire up on someone and they wear on their person, usually pinned under/on their shirt. Unless Nick is volunteering to get wired up, I don't think that's a reasonable option. In an ideal world everyone would have their own lav mic or desk mic and you'd have audio feed for each person, but this is a hostile recording environment.

If someone is operating the camera, a shotgun mic mounted to a smartphone on a grip is probably as good as it'll need to be. Downside with that is that you have to point the mic at what you're trying to record for the best quality audio, so if it's just a static mounted tripod it's probably out of the question. Maybe a Zoom M3 MicTrak? That has 120 degree recording, might work if you put it in a corner somewhere, but I don't have personal experience with it.

Would they capture a room audio though
They're capable of it, but you'd want to use a separate mic to really make sure you get good audio. Something like the Rode VideoMic NTG is a great option and can be plugged into a camera, phone, or laptop. ECM-B10 also looks like a solid option if you go with a Sony camera.

+1 on the ZV-E10, solid camera that you can get pretty cheap and it's good enough for a livestream. Big plus for the Sony cameras is that they can output directly over USB-C to a computer so you can make it a bit more retard proof, although you'll take a bit of a quality hit. Over USB-C the ZV-E10 will output 720p/30fps or you could get 1080p/60fps or 4k/30fps with a capture card. Could step up to a ZV-E10 II or a6700 if you want 1080p/60fps or 4k over USB-C. Make sure you grab a USB 3.2 cable if you go that route.
