First: A little bit of gaming history
Disaster Report or Zettai Zetsumei Toshi is a series of survival action games. The player must survive and escape the collapse of an artificial island usually after a disaster. Players must gear themselves up, avoid debris and hazards while looking for ways to escape, changing clothes to suit the situation (wear good clothes as to not be swept away by the flood, carry enough luggage to not get tired, but enough supplies to last) While escaping, you will find a sinister plot in the process. Well, all games in the series have a fucking Yakuza plot, even the game escaping from rampaging Godzilla, etc has a fucking Yakuza plot.
Anyway, in this game, they threw away most of the system built from the previous games, like the clothes are now just cosmetics instead of stats, weight doesn't effect much anymore... The reason for the change is the director wanted to focus on building relationships and community after a disaster, different from the previous games that are all about escaping the disaster. Also, this game was supposed to be released in the PS3 era, but delayed due to Fukushima disaster.
I am playing this game as to put perspective on the current disaster and how I feel about it. And also, to see the difference on this director's vision on making a game with connecting people than Kojima's vision. And, I am going to shill this game for free, since I feel that more people need to play this game.
So, let's have a quick playthrough of Disaster Report 4, or the real Death Stranding game. PS. despite how it looks, its a linear game, not open world. I will be playing as moral as possible, leaving the memey answers and being an asshole in the next playthrough.
Booting up the game....
I chose to play as a girl as to follow the cover
After a few personal questions, we start the game.
It was an ordinary day, going to a job interview....
I gave my seat to an old lady
Suddenly.... EARTHQUAKE!!!!
I got out of the bus somehow safe...
Picking ourselves up, I tried to go back, but....
welp, can't go back now... so, I change my clothes to yukata since its DLC... and head to the nearest open area.... the park....
I found a man sitting in the park with his lunch thrown on the ground....
It turns out, he was fired from the company he was working for a month ago. He's keeping it a secret from his family. He doesn't know what to do. For a month, he's sitting down on the bench in the park, waiting for the sundown to go back. In the end, he told me not to become like him....
Earthquake!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welp, I guess I can't pass through there now....
A teacher is looking for her students.... I gladly offered my help.
I found them hanging inside a very unstable fashion store... so I tried to tell them to go back.
Some people tried to keep business going....
I successfully found all the students, but the road is blocked, and the only way is to go through a upturned truck...
We pass through a semi fallen building.....
and have to push a truck to escape the ravaging fire
And found ourselves in a much worse situation. lel. they gave up trying to go back to school. So, I have to keep my journey alone.
I rest a bit, and this is the pose that is shown on the title screen....
There's some internal monologue and choices... and after that, I pick myself up and have to traverse this very dangerous city.
I explored and walked around and.... yeah, guys, I don't think you can save the guy....
What can you say to a lady with her lover dying that the ambulance won't come because of the disaster?
And there's this convenience store worker, trying to profit greatly from the disaster, charging 30000 yen (280 USD) for a bottle of water
Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I go in the collapse building looking for survivors.
After trying to rescue someone, I ended up on the other side of the street...
Spiderman help!!
poor chef, she finally saved enough money to open her own restaurant, and on the first day, disaster happens.
still exploring the area, trying to get through and surviving....
Has there been a murder?
The lady murdered the jewelry store owner and is now stealing all the jewelry in the store.... will you admonish her?
after that, I came out on a street. I encountered a singer busking on the street. And this guy is angry for the girl being insensitive, specially now because of the disaster. Do you agree with him???
Hmmm... maybe if I find a way to get to that skyway, I can easily get to the harbor and get a boat out of here.
WOOPS!! Never mind...
Hmm... The Japanese are so polite that when they die, they perfectly form up a line...
and, I'll finish my playthrough here. I hope you got interested in playing the game and play it yourself. comment if you me to keep going or just discuss the game or the game series in general.
