Fun fact, the communists are responsible for the radioactive catastrophe that got most first responders in revachol addicted to Pyrholidon. They took a look at the capitalists selling electircity and decided to build a makeshift nuclear reactor "for the people" but because they were incompetent retards they fucked it up and contaminated the whole area. And as if the D-man wasn't enough, the other communists there seem to be outright comical figures, who fail to deliver the thought to the masses for who is the ideology intended.
While complaining about Men of Wö is a wee bit cringe on the surface without elaboration, I don't think anyone here trusts modern writers to write a female or feminine protagonist. Best case scenario its gonna be a man with breasts stapled on, worst case its gonna be a sue. Female MC doesn't make the game bad on its own, its just an enormous red flag that the game probably will be bad, especially considering its supposed to be story and character driver.female mc, hard fucking pass
Writing side characters is not quite the same as writing the main character.Or it was just too expensive and unreliable - HDB himself had to take the police job, because he and the ex-something couldn't afford electricity and heating in their little house from both their incomes & money from parents she got, let alone start a family like that. Also it was roughly in the time the coal industry was shut down, be it because the island had run out of coal, or Coalition had cancelled it because of their version of Green deal.
Anyway, I wouldn't trust Robert Kurvitz alone with writing main female characters, at least not in the time he wrote the book, because the girls seem more like characters from a washing gel commercial or a withered sunlit memory, than real people (this could be intentional tho). Except for being ''molly'' users at 12yo, but maybe that's sort of normal in their world.
I think I'd trust the writer team of the original game tho. I mean, none of the DE women seem to be ridiculously overpowered the way they'd grab grown men by the collar and throw them from windows and such. Even the porcelain ass Dutchie shows up at the shootout drunk and possibly gets shot in the face. Even Ruby fails to fit into the Hardie's group like the guys do, and unlike a flawless Sue, falls for the Oranje disco dancer and fucks up her life.
Just had a look at Scarlet Hollow, the art is so Tumblr it hurts. I can't believe this is a 'mining town', it won't have that many trendy hipsters and dating-game looking people like that.I know authors who don't know shit about mining but write about mining towns anyway are a widespread thing, but did you have the visual novel Scarlet Hollow on your mind?
(On such places, you just aren't gonna get a plant guy's special cake with perfect coffee in a hipster café as if it was next to an art college, ffs. A more realistic experience is ending up at local gas station, maybe getting your coffee if the person in charge of the machine bothered to wake up and come to work, and listen to rambles of a drunk wreck of former miner NPC who sits on a barrel 24/7 apparently.)
Thank god this wasn't made, As bleak as the game could be I saw Cuno becoming detective at the end and getting away from drugs and Cunoesse a surprisingly good ending. I don't want to see him getting manipulated and lost himself to that little bitch.Apparently it wasn't meant to be a fun game that is likable, but a game that "had to be made" which is still better, than if they based a game on fanservice - as long as the authors are able to convey their thoughts so it makes sense to the reader. (The book alone failed at that)
Tbh, the Cuno ending in DE was surprisingly rewarding, I just couldn't bring myself to play it in my 1st playthrough and had to leave it for later. He had tuned the preemptive hostility down a bit there, so he was more tolerable. Any other street kid wouldn't be nice and likable anyway, that would make them an easy victim.
The description of railway station scene with the time limit makes me anxious just from reading tho.
That's true, but still I'd trust them they wouldn't mess up nevertheless. It's not like such game is going to happen anyway and I don't actually care what sex a main character is, as long I find the writing good (likability is not necessary, I find my version of HDB tolerable at best, cos I can't change his past).Writing side characters is not quite the same as writing the main character.
I don't even miss the game itself, but I am always thirsty for some new lore. And Cunoesse's backstory as was revealed, seems to be still less bleak than any headcanon or fanfic I've read about her by now. I mean, she still wants to return to a place she calls home even when it seems to be a Midsommar for alcoholics, and her being just cracked in the head and antisocial by simple inbreeding within a small community and lack of upbringing seems better than some severe abuse scenario. Not appropriate for children, still sad, but at least no shock value.Thank god this wasn't made, As bleak as the game could be I saw Cuno becoming detective at the end and getting away from drugs and Cunoesse a surprisingly good ending. I don't want to see him getting manipulated and lost himself to that little b*tch.
The writing needs to be writen to accomodate for the sex of the main character. The wolf children doesn't work with a male lead and rambo doesn't work with a female lead. The problem isn't you not caring about the sex of the main character, the problem is the writers not caring either.I don't actually care what sex a main character is, as long I find the writing good
I wanted a cuno spinoff. Cuno's personality being fucked up from being addicted to meth at age 11 and him being recruited by harry at the end of the game to try and turn his life around makes for a fantastic sequel material with cuno as a junior detective being torn between his trauma/addiction and him trying to improve his life like harry presumably did.Are they kidding with this? Did anyone want a Cuno spinoff? What would be so wrong with making a new character whom you don't already hate going into the game instead of making me play as this terrible one? Just any other street kid in this setting and I would not have instantly hated it; the final act concept is alright, it just doesn't seem like there's all that much happening on the way there.
Yes I just wanted to say I wouldn't refuse to play some future game, just because its main character is a man (some more radical kiwis say such things), but come to that, that was unnecessary to say, cos I am in this thread...The writing needs to be writen to accomodate for the sex of the main character. > Disco Elysum is immersion breaking because a throwaway piece of dialogue contains two incredibly generic words that can vaguely allude to a reference to a game that didn't even exist when disco elysium came out.And the immersion breaking... near the very beginning when I was talking to that crackhead kid throwing rocks, when he mentioned Night City I nearly alt F4'd my way out of the game. I hate out of place references like that, especially to other video games. They put all this thought into immersion and then throw a Cyberpunk reference in there for the cutters and the autists.
It's my understanding that Night City is from the OLD ASS tabletop game Cyberpunk, not just from the Cyberpunk 2077 videogame that's based on the tabletop game.> Disco Elysum is immersion breaking because a throwaway piece of dialogue contains two incredibly generic words that can vaguely allude to a reference to a game that didn't even exist when disco elysium came out.
Least retarded disco elysium hater.
The guy did specify videogame, but this makes it even funnier. "My immersion was shattered because someone used the words night and city next to one another which can vaguely alude to a 40 year old tabletop game. This is completely unacceptable."It's my understanding that Night City is from the OLD ASS tabletop game Cyberpunk, not just from the Cyberpunk 2077 videogame that's based on the tabletop game.
