This post is a bit of a rant because I'm the mood, but I also want to inform people in here about certain "measure" Discord has, in case you dare to use such disgraceful platform and don't know about this. The incompetence of their staff and subpar functionality of the site is something to behold, and could make you lose your contacts, PMS, and anything you have in it.

It's so terrible that I want to describe it (by the way, it's nothing new, which makes it worse).

So Discord Dicksore seems to be extremely volatile when it comes to "suspicious activity" about your account at any point of the process, not only when you log in, and for no reason at all. If you have not verified your phone, it could randomly block you out and demand that you enter a phone number, otherwise it won't let you proceed (but wait, there's more!).

Now, what could cause the "suspicious activity" trigger? I've seen it in action, so I can tell you that it can just activate by you just sending friend requests, without spamming them, a couple will do, nothing more is needed.

Then, what can happen if you want to finally verify the phone number? This is the fun part, it's the infamous "Invalid phone number" message that will pop out in crimson letters, regardless of how legit the number is, that could leave you without recourse. It literally will deny you no matter what, leaving you with the only option left... are you prepared for this?
It's... contacting support... ("contact sapport saar")

As you'd expect, trying to talk to these malfunctioning bots and glue-snorting individuals will get you nowehere, they're completely, 100% useless, and I don't even know if they have a single qualification for working in any job, any field, are they even sentient? But this is not a surprise.

What is a surprise though, is that a platform can randomly block you out at any point, and then make it literally impossible for you to reclaim your account from their bullshit.
And yes, I know this platform is filled with degenerates in every corner, but you also have to admit that without nonsense like this, it's a "semi-good chat like service" for contacting friends and people you know. How hard can it be to have a functioning platform, with basic features not infected by their retardation?

i also hate that i have to give out my phone number to them by force, my FIFINE AM8 is apparently too quiet and it doesnt pick up the quality despite the microphone being configured correctly. its a shame that there isnt a good alternative to discord with the same exact features.

Reminds me of the infinite captcha loops Google likes to give if you are on a "suspicious" IP address. You'll get the captcha right, but it will just keep giving you more and more forever. I have noticed when you get that, you can sometimes use the disability option of an audio caption to get around it, though sometimes it will tell you no audio caption is available.
The whole required phone number thing is a menace on the web now. I remember when email addresses were commonly optional, now phone numbers are being pushed onto so many accounts that really don't need them, especially chat services for some reason.

Discord should be the dictionary definition of enshittification. The entire service went from a simple, user friendly experience light on resources, to transforming into a bloated mess of unwanted and unused "features", spyware, shady ToS, furry and troon devs and jannies, neverending list of new bugs and glitches each update, terrible UI, and hogging more resources than Google Chrome with 100 tabs open. It's also interesting to note this shift happened right around 2020 when the covid lockdowns were in full effect (at this same time, discord dropped "made for gamers" from their website, showing they've made the full shift from a gaming oriented software to general software). I can't even have a VC with other people anymore without the call randomly dropping me every 20 minutes, or join a server's VC without the server shitting the bed.

The entire push to require phone numbers for registration more or less isn't for "additional security" more than it is a way of said companies being able to track you or selling your phone number. Discord does it simply because they think it'll prevent ban evasions despite the fact there's entire services that sell SIM cards and numbers. SMS 2FA is a scam that will never work.

The good thing about discord is that anybody can use it anonymously

The bad thing about discord is that anybody can use it anonymously
Seems like you can't if they lock out your account unless you give them your phone number. After that they will sell out your ass to anybody if they don't like you.

They also do this with e-mail addresses. My Discord is tied to an e-mail I don't have access to any more, and trying to change it demands I log into the old e-mail. Support does nothing. So I'm basically assuming my account/servers are on borrowed time.

Edit: I wonder if any of this is account churn. Making people create alts to boost their numbers.

I don't think I've ever had any serious technical problems with Discord. They seem to be passively tolerant of all the accounts I have, and there's no phone number on any of them. Maybe I just don't use it enough to notice the problems, but it's mostly just unsettlingly creepy.

But the "buy our stuff!" prompts are getting steadily more common, more varied, more annoying, and are showing up in more places, and that's never a good sign. It was nice to hope they could have reached some modest level of profitability and escaped the worst of the enshittification process, because they appeared to have some kind of business model and I never got the impression they were e.g. burning piles of money on flamingly wasteful cloud services like so much VC-ware does, but that was probably naive.

Every site and service requires vital information or a forced subscription to their content. It's disgusting how they can get away with it, you're backed into a corner or told to fuck off. And they make it nearly impossible to unsubscribe from anything once you do. Not even just Discord (even though it doesn't force subs that much from what I've been told) nearly every site, nook and cranny of the internet. Nothing is private anymore and everything is monetized. Literally and metaphorically MATI.

I quit discord a while back when this happened over unblocking someone. I contacted support and they were more useless than an ape with a keyboard and literally the most retarded barely literate piece of shit I have ever had to deal with. I will never use discord again. Ever. Fuck discord. I purposely don't have a phone number and I'm not getting one for shitcord. Using fake temporary numbers? Yeah. No. The second you disconnect that phone number you go right back into being locked out.

same thing happens with microsoft accounts if you forget the security questions and change your phone number. they straight up tell you to make a new account in that case no matter how much you spent on the acc you're locked out of.

Stopped using Discord since I realized everyone on it was essentially a retarded carbon copy of eachother. I figured I could prbably find something better and I dipped out. Never knew it’s gotten this bad though.

the bigger question, what's the alternative? revolt?
without just-as-simple alternative people are more likely to bend over than leave.

worse, last time I checked that process is fully automated. imagine a trillion dollar company not wanting to afford proper CS. otoh the monkeypaw would be they're all indians...

Is TeamSpeak still a thing? Not the retarded Electron app (please tell me it is not an Electron app now) but the old nostalgic "a user in your channel was banned from the server" TeamSpeak with the personally hosted community servers and such.

Discord is also a capital of bona fide shady activities, pedophiles, eunuchs, gooners, groomers, trannies, abusers, obese landwhales and the list goes on. Such that, Discord also hold Discord moderators and admins that are as incompetent and as greasy as your isolated basement dweller. Mainly only retard uses Discord since they do not know other better alternatives than this hellhole. Everything here on Discord, Microsoft and such would breach your privacy rights with phone numbers and the list goes on.

Nothing is safe any longer, and we would be roasted rotisserie chickens when our rights to privacy was shown to the public or leaked. Bare essence of any social medias and splinters are simply taking your personal info and refuse to acknowledge privacy and even still allowing little kids to use Dicksore.
