This is regarding the discord server of a right-wing Youtuber, Jeff (Bill was his partner but has not been active for some time). Many of the videos especially older videos are critical of things like censorship, so the irony here is that they are critical of censorship when it's done towards them.... but not when it's done by them.

The story here revolves around 2 people: Jeff himself and Cinder. Cinder is the only admin on Jeff's server, and until recently Cultured Thug was one of its mods.
The main thing going on here is that Cinder was being verbally abusive towards one of the regular members (a user called Cultured Thug), and used mod powers to silence any opposition to his actions in VCs. When a friend of this member (Bro Ku) threatened Cinder with a doxx, he was banned. Cultured Thug then approaches Jeff for help. Jeff then disregards this, stating that as he and Cinder has a working relationship he won't do anything. View attachment 2133714
Bro Ku managed to doxx Cinder, and leaked his info to a private group DM. Cinder attempts to use "proof" that Bro Ku has been doxxing members of the server as a reason to ban him.... and posts this proof on the server itself without censoring anything:

You're missing the forest for the trees. Or maybe you just don't remember the time when the client and the platform weren't one and the same. Element is the closest thing to a drop-in discord replacement client and the fact that you can use it with as based and redpilled or whatever a host as you want means that unless they start intoducing spyware and shit into the client (which would be tantamount to suicide) it means less than nothing. Crunklord literally hosts a matrix server so we don't have this problem.

But put that all aside for one moment. How hard is it to convince your friends to leave discord? Surely you know which is why you made that post, you want people to leave discord and move to something better than element because otherwise your post would just be pedantry for its own sake. So naturally you know how difficult it is to get people to leave a platform, even one as awful and unnneccessary as discord. Element is the next closest thing to discord which means it's the most likely thing to actually cause people to leave discord. Yes element's not very good, but think about just how much worse it would have to be to be comparable to discord. Maybe if there was another comparable matrix client, but I haven't heard of any such thing.

I had better luck convincing people to switch to IRC, rather than any matrix.org client.

It terms of UI it's comparable to discord in my opinion, but the UX is by far more horrendous.

To special ones who actually bothered with matrix - I reccomended them to use either fluffychat or seaglass instead of what was back then Riot.im

Also, on an unrelated sperg - Dendrite is a bitch to set up to federate properly and I have wasted less time fully rebuilding my entire network architecture at work than configuring that shit.

And when I said "bad" and "worse" I wasn't speaking of design. I was talking about all the tankies, janny trannies, paedos, furries, furry paedos, etc. running a "service" that datamines you down to the process level. I'm not a great fan of element itself and indeed will probably check out some of the alternatives you posted, but the slaient point is that really anything is better than discord. Offering a superficially similar alternative just seems to improve the odds of people actually listening.
