If we're allowed to be honest, the issue never was that the migrants eat animals or take jobs, the issue is that they are non-white migrants and white people mostly don't want to live near them. You might think that it's a backwards concern, but it still is their town and they should be able to choose who they accept and don't accept there. Most white Americans think more or less along these lines:
Canadian, Australian, New Zealander and Western or Northern European migrants: acceptable
East Asian and Southern European migrants: tolerable, if young, law-abiding and intelectually distinguished.
Latin American and Eastern European migrants: tolerable, if law-abiding, intelectually distinguished, wealthy and willing to make a direct contribution to the economy.
Other migrants: don't even think about coming to America.
