At this rate I feel like people are going to pay more attention to Dreamworks with all this bull shit going on; also with Star Wars, it isn’t fully Disney’s fault. George Lucas made the decision to sell it off to them and now it’s ruined because of the choice he made.

Honestly, I'd say that a good chunk of Iger's ego comes from the massive success of the MCU. It's a high-risk yet high-reward franchise that is keeping the rest of Disney afloat more than anything else.

Even with the success of Frozen and some of the live-action remakes, Marvel's success is why Iger can get away with things like A Wrinkle In Time or the crashing and burning of Star Wars.

However, since the MCU is a high-risk/high-reward endeavor, all it takes is one or two MCU films to flop (or even just under-perform badly enough) and Iger will go down in history with a worse reputation than Eisner.

I think even Iger himself is beginning to see the writing on the wall, or has at least considered the possibility, which is why he's leaving next year and let his successors clean up the mess.

I think Iger's banking on 2020 going by without too many big flops and the next phase of the MCU not having any setbacks. Now that Endgame's over and the MCU's not building towards anything, along with how badly Last Jedi and Plan IX tanked Star Wars and the tide starting to turn against woke culture, who knows how this decade will fare for the Rat?

Personally, I want the MCU to suffer its first flop in 2020 while Iger's still in charge of Disney...

I wonder if he realizes things are starting to go South and he left to save his legacy. The box office is going to suffer this year because of Corona Chan and likely an economic downturn.

Disney don't want it if its *adult*

I guess watching Lizzie wrestle with credit card debt while debating whether or not to get an IUD isn't family-friendly I suppose.
No lol its probably something like Miranda, now a Latina GOOPer, convincing Lizzie to use a Diva Cup. It slips during an important business fashion meeting. Cartoon Lizzie screams.

i guess lizzie got her clizzie ate in the pilot or something. Idk

I'm curious about how Disney in the 2010's will be looked at in retrospect, given their brazen monopoly building and all. I'd wager most of the focus would be on the success of the MCU at the time and the downfall of Star Wars, but what about Disney's core animated canon?

The 1990's was defined by the Disney Renaissance, the 2000's was defined by the downturn of the animated canon and the rise of Pixar, and the 2010's was basically Disney trying to take control of everything, starting with Marvel and then going on to acquire Star Wars and 20th Century Fox by the end of the decade.

Really, the only Disney movies outside of the Marvel stuff that I think will still be looked upon positively in retrospect will be the first Frozen movie, Toy Story 3, Tangled, and maybe Big Hero 6 (I'll admit, I think that one's underappreciated) and even then, I think once the MCU stops being a draw, I wouldn't be surprised if it's viewed in hindsight as a sort of pop culture cringe, given the ubiquity of the movies and superhero flicks in general.

Really, capeshit is to the 2010's what campy Westerns were to the 1950's. Still wondering what the big movie trends of the 2020's will be, and how Disney will fare under Bob Chapek.

yeah, I'm pretty much seeing Disney's 2010 period as "LOOK AT ALL THE SHIT WE OWN NOW!"

Also, why won't they release House of Mouse on DVD and importantly the Alladin series on DVD? Don't want to pay Gilbert Gottfried?

The last few times I rode it I got the impression Jungle Cruise isn't beating well maintained at all (and this was years ago)

It's a shame because it's an underrated ride, it deserves better treatment.

Well, if they've got the Aladdin film on Disney+... it's not out of the question that they could come there, but all you can do is wait and see.

Ahahahaha, nothing will be released on DVD anymore. There's the wonderful world of streaming! Who needs physical copies anymore, pfft that's for boomers.

We actually discussed this in a class I had the other day. Sales of physical media have been declining for years and eventually it might reach the point where it's just not profitable to sell them. Meanwhile streaming services have exploded because people prefer sacrificing ownership of a product for the sake of convenience.

It's fucking depressing.

There’s also the fact that there’s no real way of watching the shows of other streaming services without also paying for it; TV channels were better with being able to see their shows without a pay wall. Though, you could just pirate those shows.
