Do Nerds Naturally Gravitate Towards Leftism? If so, why?

this is just something I realized. If you go through history, its usually nerd groups who seem to be the first to adopt leftist beliefs and practices.

Its obvious today, with how many comic book fans, anime fans, and video gamers became SJWs, but this trend is even evident throughout history. Fans of comics and science-fiction novels for example (who were the cornerstone of nerddom for most of history) were also among the first to embrace things like gay rights and the like.

Of course there's the fact that a lot of this media is itself leftist (many sci-fi novels depict a future where a perfect government runs everything, stuff like Star Trek speaks for itself, etc) but this presents a chicken-or-the-egg scenario where I'm not sure whether the media changed in response to the fans or if the fans changed because of the media.

Anyway, what do you think?

The unemployed gravitate left and the ones who actually have jobs are borderline fascist, even the minorities, due to fatigue. Theres the straggler lgbt fan but they're usually tolerated rather than embraced by the teams.
t. IT worker.

Oh like comic book nerds. Legit the really vocal ones are the kind that jump to trend to trend to stay popular and drop it the moment it's no longer bringing them in social points.

Nerds naturally gravitate towards ideologies based around systematic thinking. Logic-based things where you have some set of axioms or beliefs and you build up an ideology around that, as opposed to more emotive, intuitive ideology. So nerds are often attracted to Communism, but also to libertarianism. Nerds are also attracted to fringe things with very sharp aesthetics, things that are subcultures. They're born contrarians. All of these are things that would scare them off of centrism, mainstream conservatism (but not retarded nationalist larping), and to an extent even moderate cuck leftism. If they're religious they tend to be weird about it, normal religious people don't give a fuck about what ecumenical council said what a thousand years ago.

I don't believe it's inherently a Left-wing thing. The whole Alt-Right was found by nerds. You just see the nerds on the Left more because they get more exposure by media and it's the dominant ideology in our culture today.

The flip side of half of sci fi being Communist utopias is that half of it is uber-libertarian, more your Heinlein type stuff and his imitators.

Everyone is communist until they have money that they worked hard for. Also when you aren't assertive enough to take what you want then you'll want the government to give it to you.

Then the other non communist beliefs are extensions of being a passive people pleaser. They hold socially acceptable opinions and never want to go against the grain. They only upset people that it's socially acceptable to upset. If the media and majority of the general public started being vocal about anti trans shit these people would adopt this opinion too.

So pretty much unemployed or easy money plus not assertive and wants to hold the "correct" opinions

Hello, it is I, nerd.
I am weird or genetic refuse or unhealthy or socially awkward or interested in something taboo (mentally ill).

I am rejected by my peers and society at large :(

I will pour all my energies into a niche interest in order to accrue value.

I have accrued value! But I am still not as popular as the most fit people. NOT FAIR :(

Because other people continue to reject my bad DNA I develop urges, kinks, and proclivities that are extremely anti-social/vindictive.

Idea: I will warp the values of society so that I am more admirable than the normies! The I will get all the approval that I want!

Oh look! there are other insane/degenerate/malajusted people!

Glory to the revolution.

A rule of thumb for me is that if the thing nerds are into isn't made fun of anymore or seen as stupid, then it isn't nerdy anymore. From my observations the "nerds" of today aren't really nerds, they've just latched onto whatever The Big Bang Theory shoved in front of them. Then of course those same people are so braindead that all it takes is someone who knows how to manipulate things to bring political activism into what were once simple nerd hobbies. Contrarianism also plays a role as @User names must be unique pointed out - but as I said it doesn't take much to manipulate braindead people to think being left-leaning makes you smarter and more enlightened.

Most actual nerds I know of either continue with their hobbies in small groups or are engineers or even carpenters. They don't give a shit about politics or gender shit - they just wanna talk about their interests or make cool shit for themselves and I admire that.

I think it is the result of having to deal with consumer-Christian "outrage" and being a general outsider.
Leftist groups preached how they were fighting against the no good people that wanted to censor everything you like!
Then they pledged to accept the freaks of society, as long as they don't hurt no body. Guess what kind of people are considered not only freaks, but are also incredibly harmless?

It is why you see a lot of ex-leftists into nerd shit, especially old nerd shit, nowadays as well. It is a similar story about how the people who fought against the fundies for them fell from grace and became the very thing they were supposed to fight against. It is also practically the reason a lot of leftists still think the right is entirely made up of 2004 neocons.

You got this backwards: it's leftists that adopted nerd hobbies the moment it was marketed to the mass public. Nerds were largely apolitical or disinterested in politics like they were with pretty much everything else. It's why they're nerds to begin with. The type of nerd you're thinking of isn't a nerd at all. It's a retarded normie who took their public education to heart.

You're forgetting comics used to be more consumed by the general populace. And science-fiction novels having a ton of autocratic to dystopian elements. Really, I wouldn't call their writers nerds. They were typically educated or from completely normal backgrounds. The appeal of Star Trek to nerds was never the socialist nonsense but the galaxy itself: the Borg, the Q, psionics, and all the adventures.

The nerds want to escape the world we live in, not imagine it better than it is.
Anyway, what do you think?
i think normies should fuck off from the things i love so they can be good again

Right-wing ideologies are the ideologies of strong and powerful, while leftism is the ideology of the weak. And nerds used to be(or at least, viewed themselves as) downtrodden by Chads and Stacies due to their unwillingness to conform to male stereotypes.
However, nerds tend to grow up and get lucrative jobs in STEM, which causes their worldview to shift to the right. Also, leftists started butting into nerds' hobbies, which pushed them to the right.

My best guess is it starts from a place of empathy.
If you were a dude being shoved in a locker in the 80s because you liked D&D, you might start to be more tolerant to the gay guy having the same attitude shown towards them. You're all societal rejects who will never be accepted for who you are. But fast forward 30 years when the minorities and you aren't being bullied/ostracized nearly as much but you still think you are. You and all the social misanthropes have either got a job in game design, film, music, IT, teaching, ect.
You still think every conservative is Biff Thundercock, who either bullied you at a time where it was more socially acceptable to do so or just had a social grace that you never could attain, or every christian are your parents who kicked you out of the house for playing an RPG or listening to Black Sabbath. You don't want to be in any way like the people who made life hell for you decades ago, so instead of adapting any nuance or understanding how the world has progressed, you still put everyone who in any way reminds you of the people who rejected you when you were young in the same bubble and insist that they can't like what you like or be in a similar boat you were once in. Because how could the guy who likes anime but also wants to exercise and/or doesn't hang around protected classes be like you?
So you reject these people who for all intents and purposes have the same opinions you had when you were younger and double down on embracing LGBTQ rights, veganism and your hatred for religion because you view those as the "outsider" culture, even if they have become the literal opposite and are now the mainstream. You blackball people from your artistic industries, consider any harassment they may get as completely justifiable and say they shouldn't read/listen to/watch your stuff. You then are surprised when people don't like this and hold you accountable.
Now you have people who are essentially the modern day jocks who would've beat you half to death celebrating you, adopting your lingo, culture and style without any of the pushback that you would have had. You then are also surprised when these total social misfits want to drop you when your past comes to light that reveals that you did the kind of questionable sexual activity that usually comes from someone who has very little experience properly interacting with women, which for a large section of your life was you. You then deal with the same social pariah status you did before but still internalize it and forget the world is for all intents just the same as it was when you were in highschool, just with a new coat of paint now.
Nevertheless, you're happy that you and all the freaks and geeks are still doing your due dilligence to fight back against the jocks and "toxic masculinity" or "white privilege" or "fascism" that you experienced as an adolescent and never bothered to reform your thoughts about into adulthood. Meanwhile all of the people you have formed the entire crux of your entire life philosophy around are either dead, don't give a shit about you, or found jesus and would probably apologize to you if you met them again. And your fellow "nerds" are now the schoolyard bully or cliquey mean girls and you're none the wiser.

TL;DR Don't let the fact your parents made you go to Church on Sundays or you were called a faggot a couple of times in the locker room haunt you into adulthood so much that you end up almost irrevocably destroying every facet of your country in your lifetime.

It depends on the type of nerd. Thanks to the Big Bang Theory and iPhone (and the wider culture surrounding tech consumerism) there are a lot of people who consider themselves nerds who really just go with whatever is trendy, which is a speech-policing neoliberalism in anti-authoritarian dressing. . When it comes to nerds in the original sense, people obsessed with obscure topics and hobbies, I think there is a tendency to gravitate toward any extremes. They tend to insist on consistency and an extremist ideology has that. Early experiences with authorities influence which way they go. If they were the teacher's pet or mama's boy, they'll be a communist. If their relationship with their parents or teachers was less than ideal, they'll end up a Libertarian.
As for Star Trek, that's more post-scarcity than socialism or any kind of leftism, and if the latter is what you see in it, you're not that much of a nerd.
