Do you care about (your characters) gender when you play a game?

This thread was somewhat spawned from the recent "outrage" from the Space Station 13 stuff.

I was thinking, when I play a game, especially one where I don't play as "myself". Do I really care if the gender of my character lines up with myself?
And I wanted to ask you people. Do you care? Are you very particular with what gender the character you're playing is?
Last question: Are you trans?

I'll primarily choose whatever is tactically advantageous in a game, but if it's purely cosmetic I'll pick whichever gender is better designed. In either case, if I replay a game I'll usually play as the opposite of whatever I initially chose. And you know, sometimes you just prefer to see a girl, not even for gooning but just because they're easier on the eyes.

If it's up to me I choose a white guy but if I have to play a woman character I don't care unless they are just really ugly or annoying. I would never choose to customize female character because that's fucking weird, but if it's a choice between a male or female premade character, I'm more willing to choose a female character if I think she is cool. I prefer attractive characters generally but not as a coomer thing, I just don't want to look at ugly niggos in a video game where I don't have to think about the real world.

Like for example, Silent Hill 3 having Heather Mason as the playable character doesn't bother me. Heather is cool. The ugly bitch from Concord? Who would want to play as that?

and how hot the girl is
^this is pretty much the only reason why guys would pick a woman to play as. Especially in RPGs and Adventure games. Since you're looking at the back of that character anyway, you might as well ge checking out her ass while doing it.

Why else do you think games Like Stella Blade and Nier Automita sell like gangbusters? Guys like playing as hot attractive women, especially if they have a cool personality.

Not really, most of the time, as I enjoy roleplaying as a character in a story.
However, I do have heavily modded Skyrim, and I will admit that I spent several hours trying to make my exact face…I don’t know what flavor of autism that is.

Man or woman? Excuse me, where are the other 23 genders? Reported for bigotry. And no I'm not trans, I'm gender liquid. That's like gender fluid but even more better and specialer.

Depends, I usually go for female but I have no trouble either way. Sometimes it seems like they get more of a variety of hairstyles, so that's why I may choose the female.
If there's a party system, I'll try to get an equal amount of boys and girls.

Often, the main or one of the main points is to roleplay, so I don't see the gender selection as trivial, it adds to the experience of immersing yourself as how you want to, but at the same time is nothing to lose sleep over; I should add that I have no clue what this new outrage/controversy is with that game.

My first character will always be a man and I put a massive amount of effort into getting every detail right. Second character I just choose one of the presets and maybe change the hair color.

99 percent of the time you dont even see your character and theres minimal actual ingame effects sometimes from ideological reasons and most of the time just because the devs cant be assed.

I think I have a slight bias to making female characters over male characters. That being said, on repeat playthroughs I always pick the opposite gender of the prior run. No fun to do the same shit twice.
