I've tried, mostly with the popular stuff. I like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Death Note, but I hate the "exaggerated" expressions. You know, like when the characters grow sharp teeth and scream when they're angry. It's just off-putting. I tried Fullmetal Alchemist recently and stopped when the blonde guy got mad, grabbed two guys by the head, and spun around. That and it's just not interesting most of the time.

I mostly stick to the Berserk manga now.

just binged "Land of the Lustrous", It's basically the Japanese equivalent of Steven Universe, I mean that in a good way

Any time I see an anime avatar, what I think is "this guy rapes kids."

Most other people do that too.

This killed FMA for me.

You should try reading Blade of the Immortal or Akira. None of that stuff you're talking about.

I really wanna watch Akira that's for sure. Never heard of Blade of the Immortal but it sounds interesting.

Also want to try Vagabond. I heard about it looking up manga similar to Berserk.

modern anime sucks.
80s-early 90s anime, well that's another story.
Konosuba is a modern show, though

Raping kids or thinking that?

Vagabond is based on Eiji Yoshikawa's book about Miyamoto Musashi. It's really good. The artstyle is amazing, the fights are great and I love the characters. The story centres around Musashi, who essentially starts out as a nobody who barely survived the Battle of Sekigahara and how he becomes one of Japan's most well-known and iconic swordfighters. There's also a sidecharacter called Matahachi, who is Musashi's friend, but they get seperated early on and it shows their different lives and how their decisions impacts it.

Blade of the Immortal is a 30-volume story about (you guessed it) an immortal Swordfighter named Manji. A 16 year old girl called Rin asks him for help in avenging her family that was killed by a group of Swordsmen from a sword-fighting Dojo called Itto-Ryu. It starts out straightforward enough with one side being the good guys and one side being the bad guys, but it becomes a lot more complex and the characters and their interactions are fantastic. This is one of my favorite manga of all time and I just love how it explores the theme of revenge and the morals involved. And it's absolutely gorgeous to look at.

If you're into the whole swordfighting and hyperviolence thing, you might wanna check out Shigurui. The art is ... amazing but weird, but the plot and characters are just off the rails. It's the story of how one Samurai lost his eyesight and the other his left arm and it all leads up to an epic duel between the two. I can't overstate how fucking weird it is, but it's absolutely worth a read. Especially since the action is top notch.
There's also an Anime that's pretty awesome, but it only covers part of the story.

I'm not really that into Anime, compared to Western Animation. It's probably because I prefer to watch shows where English is the original language. Although I do wonder if there are spergs out there that say that Western Animation shows would be better if they were dubbed in Japanese instead, because they either are really into Japanese voice actors, or the thought that it being in Japanese makes it superior.
