Do you guys take notes? Or do you use memory?

Every time I write notes I forget to check them so it’s more environmentally friendly to try and remember shit instead.

I have the memory of a re.tarded goldfish, so I have to write shit down. Sometimes I still forget though.

Never gotten into the habit of making to-do lists, but it's something that I've wanted since it helps with motivation and staying on track.

Always been that, if ya need to remember important stuff it should stick in the head more than anything else.

What works for me is keeping a bunch of randomly named txt files on the desktop and in the documents folder, and dropbox whatever needs to be worked on.

I am most probably older than a lot of you guys, meaning I cannot go on from memory alone, not that I suffer from alzheimer's or dementia, more likely, Computers were not a useful thing until I was an adult, meaning I had to take notes, so in short:

I take notes, because I am used to taking notes.

I have a bunch of notes about troubleshooting at work. There seems to be issues that pop up in cycles, but it might be two or three years later that you see the problem again (usually because either manufacturing has been replaced by newbies, or suppliers are cheaping out), and it's hard as hell to remember something that happened and what caused it that long ago. Especially when you're dealing continuously with new issues on different equipment and constantly shuffling around.

If I make notes, I'll remember them without having to look back on them. If I don't, I'll forget. I think it's just the act of writing them down hardens them in my memory.

Same. That was used in the military over here, everyone got a small pocketbook and a small pencil. During orientations the instructor would stop and bark out "WRITE IT DOWN!" and everyone had 10-15 seconds to write down the pertinent details. It was very effective, I never once had to consult the pocketbook and my habit of writing things down to solidify them in my memory comes from there. I could burn the note as soon as I'm done, it wouldn't matter.

I have a planner that I use for daily to-do lists, writing down my work and volunteering schedules, workout days, etc. I also use specific highlighter colors for specific things. I have a monthly to-do list taped above my desk, and a disaster of a general to-do eventually list on my whiteboard. I also have a specific notebook that I use for work and meetings. My boss thinks I'm the most amazingly organized person. I'm kind of not.

Most of the time I remember things once I write them down but specific tasks I need to refer back to my notes.

I take notes. Usually just on my phone, if it's a new job usually I'll take them on a spiral bound notebook.
If there's a circumstance where I can't take notes I usually do fine but fuck it, it's not like I'm gonna get some cheevo for not writing shit down.

I can usually remember to do things but I make notes because sometimes my mind keeps me awake at night like, "Hey, you have to do this tomorrow!" so if I write it down I can fall asleep. It's also rewarding to make a to-do list because it feels good to cross things off the list once they are done. The stuff I write down every day without fail are when I'm trying to make a new habit, and I keep a list of things I have to talk to my doctor about.

I don't make a to do list but I frantically note take at work. I list what I do as I'm doing it as I need to complete a final report at the end of most days. I am also terrible with remembering names etc so if I'm on the phone to a customer I will note down everything they're telling me otherwise I will have to ask them for their details about 12 times.

I've got into the habit of using a physical diary in the last 18 months or so and I find it really helps but apart from putting in key dates I don't really forward plan.

I don't use to-do lists but I do use timers a lot to track things like when my clothes are finished and I've been getting into the habit of using a shopping list so I don't forget anything.

I take notes. I keep a spiral flip notepad on the same pocket as my bandanna.

I attempt to (and fail at) remember things. In hindsight, I really should be writing things down.

Bit of this but I try to write everything down as it's when I do my best.
Like right now I have a note on paper to update my spreadsheet for my daily schedule but instead of doing that I'm writing this message and that note will probably be relevant tomorrow and today will be a memory kind of day.

I just try to remember and when I inevitably fail I just make something up and hope nobody dares to challenge me.
I'm still alive so it works.
