A Filipino family moved next door to my parents a few years ago. We always thought that house was cursed or something because the people who lived in it were either weird or even nasty. They're the first normal, friendly family that has lived there in the 30+ years my parents have lived in that neighborhood. My parents and them even gift food back and forth.

I've met a few cool Filipino people online. Dealing with customer service reps from there is pretty shit, better than India marginally. I like reading their names like Bongbong Marcos. I've also always wanted to try Jollibee. I think of them as Asia's Mexicans for some reason. I guess, I don't actively hate them, but I'd never want to go there and I don't think they're very relevant to anything culturally.

I was going to say I like the raid movies but remembered that was Indonesia...uh yeah I know jack shit about the Philippines, at least it's not Indonesia which looks like a hell hole, unless the Philippines is also a hell hole at which point sorry you're a hell qhole.

I like that there's an island in the Visayas (central Philippines) called "Masbate", I don't know if Masbate gets many tourists but it sounds like the perfect location to have a lot of fun by yourself.

The people are lovely, but the country is a shithole. (Many such cases. Sad!) Balut is a meme, but the cuisine is otherwise solid (turon fucking SLAMS).

Also SM are such an unapologetically evil megacorporation that I can only laugh.

ETA: My favourite fun fact I recently learned is that, in the novels, the main guy from Starship Troopers is pinoy.

As far as I know, it's known for cattle and it's rather poor. It's also considered to be part of the Luzon island group for cultural reasons although the native language there is more related to the languages of the Visayas.
