Yeah, why not? The big problem with Mars is getting people there, getting people to survive, and establishing a self-sustaining colony because AAA's range doesn't extend that far lol.
Once all the scientists get their fill of analyzing the desolate, Death Valley-like planet, they'll turn their gaze to other terrestrial planets. It's all just a long process of expanding our gaze into the Solar System and the stars. I do not believe there is real long-term desire to remain on Mars unless the scientists discover Mars has some kind of economic value for Earth.
Right now the plan seems to be:
- get autonomous robots on Mars to look around for us
- examine that data
- send goods to Mars for robots to build human domiciles
- humans visit Mars for realsies and do in-person studies
The real advancements for humanity come from the robots doing the work while humans move towards a new post-scarcity, AR/VR-enhanced daily life where our needs are fulfilled by robots. Robots mine asteroids, robots grow and cook food, robots adjust our easy chairs.
