some call them school shooter pills some say its placebo others say they are simply over prescribed and some say it permanently effects your brain. Do you trust SSRIs?

Yeah I feel like brain chemistry is a real tricky thing to balance, once some kid I knew had me try one of his happy pills and I honestly could not tell the difference it made. Maybe just stop being a bitch and you'll feel better.
It takes some time until brain receptors are saturated with anti depressants, so no wonder one pill didn't do shit.

This, modern SSRIs are slow-release medications that slow the loss of serotonin chemicals.

Old pills were literally just a dose that simulated a fuckton of seratonin production until neurologists realize that causing a sertonin storm is not a good thing.

I think they probably do have a place, but when they're misused is when they are used to try and medicate away what is known as 'Shit life syndrome'. In other words, people who aren't depressed because there's something wrong with their brain chemistry but because their lives suck. I think there are two causes of depression, internal and external. And the best treatment for the latter would best be described as "stop living in a way that's making you miserable". But that's not something that can really be prescribed by a doctor.

I have used them in the past. They improve my pro-social tendency, but tend to numb me and exaggerate my ADHD tendencies. Using oral cannabis daily works better for depressive symptoms for me, and the cost in additional mental clarity is remedied by the novelty-seeking aspects of cannabis. It's better for me to be clean though.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. If you have a weak sense of self then take personality altering drugs and then find you have trouble differentiating between you and you on CNS medication that is your fault. It is like the man who looked at someone pointing a knife at them and said, "What are you going to do stab me?"

They are legit and helpful for most who are truly in dire need (at least to prevent someone from offing themself). But they require honest internal monitoring and intelligent external feedback and observation. And many people are lacking one or both of those.

Someone has to be willing to self-advocate against a psych who is just trying to dispense them to medicate-away a problem, but too often the subject themself hopes/expects the pills to be magic. If you've not fixed your sleep, diet and exercise routine to rule out those factors, then you have zero business taking an anti-depressant.
