Outside of being a asshole he's pretty much a normalfag. His politics are bunk, but he's been willing to laugh at himself in the past and has built a career on playing roles that are rather patriotic. I feel like he's caught in a strange feedback loop where he does believe his positions are in the best interests of America AND he has to be the loudest in the echo chamber to be successful.

I mean, look at Mark Wahlberg. He tows the party line, but barely. In recent years he's made a big effort to be a part of telling the stories of normal Americans so people have heroes again and does a lot of work with local/domestic charities. Yes, he's a registered democrat and yes he donated to Obama during both elections, but the amount he donated, considering what he actually has (approximately $5k each time), seems like it was just enough to get noticed but not enough to have any considerable impact.

Now, if Mark Wahlberg still loved America but actually believed in the things Hollywood encourages people to push, he'd probably be much closer to Alec Baldwin in his behavior.

Edited to add: the quip at the top is because I’m online. If someone asked me that irl In a professional setting I’d feel really uncomfortable and I’d be looking for a way out of the conversation. It's honestly fascinating how much celebrity status affects the average person dealing with the famous and wealthy; celebrities seem to get a free pass for pretty much everything for pretending to be a hero in a movie and will have fans defend them to the death regardless of the amount of evidence against them. Ian Watkins springs to mind, a lot of young girls loved him and probably would've ended up as victims if he asked them to come back to his dressing room.

If these leaks are accurate I hope for the sake of the children these abusers get crucified.

This is absolutely true and another way celebrity culture is crap. Celebs are people who actively put themselves into the spotlight and for that alone they’re a bit suspicious in my book.
