I have had a pretty productive summer and been doing lots of game dev and app dev.

I have gotten an itch to finish a Kiwifarms related game but don’t want to sink all my time into it.

I already have a first base we could work on, a few April fools ago I made a post about a “Web3 game” that featured Null and Kiwifarms foes frens. See the original post here https://kiwifarms.st/threads/super-nullie-64-the-video-game-the-pinnacle-of-web3-gaming.160233/

What I never mentioned was the sides scrolling parts you see in the animated gifs on the OP are actually a real game. I was building in Phaser3. The original April fools was supposed to come with the game itself but real life kept getting in the way and I couldn’t get it finished in time.

My original game idea which you can kind of see in the screenshots on the linked op

“There is a group of Kiwibirds huddled over a phone and sNiggering over what they see, but then, a large, manly face rises behind them and snatches them. This was the end boss, Liz Dong Gone!

The daring slobbermutt has to run though different American cities and collect KiwiKoins, pizza and find all the kiwi birds! Each level, slobbermutt is being chased by a different Lolcow”


My idea was at the game would have a sort of Megaman screen where you kind of choose the lolcow you wanna go up against and some of them might be locked off.
The coins and Kiwi birds were way to get a sort of percentage complete at the end of each level.
I plan to have a little text cut scenes at the intro and end of each level of like a little diatribe The low cow would go on about [insert lolcows memes here].

(I should mention only the side scrolling parts were programmed. The dating Sim and management real estate was just screenshots mocked up.)


If anyone would like to work with me, I’m open to technology, but I’m just gonna lay down what tech my game currently runs on and if people want to continue with whatever I’ve already built or build a brand new game I’m open to suggestions.

  • Tech: Phaser3
  • Must be able to run on minimal hardware/phones
    • Why? Because for a meme game or a game that’s connected with something that a lot of people consider is shady (Kiwifarms) people don’t want to download an exe to their gaming/main computer. Soyjack party had this issue that people were saying it had keyloggers and Bitcoin miners and made a lot of people not wana DL it.
    • A lot of kiwi friends are phone posters, and I want phone posters to also have fun
    • Deliberately helps keep the scope manageable.
  • Pixel art made with Aseprite.
    • Again helps keep the scope manageable.
  • Tilemapped levels
    • I thought it’d be much easier to have people contribute to content and levels by allowing level designers to just the free app “Tiled” to make maps and then just submit them.
  • The game should be completely free
    • Again, the original game was supposed to be just a shit post, but I also want to work on something just for the fun and love of it and obviously not trying to start a company and I don’t wanna fight with a whole bunch of people over royalties for a game about being chased by an angry transvestite
If you think my original idea was any good or you have another idea for a small manageable shit post of a game I would love to hear about it. Something I need help with is getting a Git repo setup that won’t dox the ever loving shit out of me and a host who will take nothing and be happy about it.
 
I’ll happily help with the coding, but I don’t know the phaser language, so I would be most productive if we reimplement in C, FORTRAN, or Python. I’m rusty in Forth but I could relearn it also.

Can someone explain to me why nobody has made a smiliar sprite based game where you can just swap the images in-game or the folder? I remember 14 years ago that iPhone had games where you just import an image and now it's your character. Surely technology hasn't gone that much down the drain that we can't even have a goofy little meme game. Is it too hard to make a Castle Crashers bootleg where you can import any image as characters and enemies?
 
I might join and program something. I've never used Phaser, but it seems to be a good choice cause it's for HTML5, so we could build a web game and upload it to itch/new grounds/etc and players wouldn't have to install anything.
Using pixel art and tiles is also a logical choice.

Although if it was up to me, I'd rather make a Vampire Survivors-like or a twin-stick shooter, where you play as a lolcow and fight off weens and a-logs. Different cows would have different stats, and weapons/abilities would be based on lolcow items, e.g: Chris's attraction sign pulls nearby coins towards you, Boogie2988's gun temporarily stuns the enemies, etc.

EDIT: also, I'm a typescript pro(as in, I get paid for programming in it).

I thought it would be funny to have a WarioWare-type game where each minigame is a reference to a cow (e.g., a pixel dong-gone keeps unplugging cables which the player has to re-connect) but I know jack shit about gamedev (only ever done a couple bash scripts/python tutorial programs.)
Better yet, why not just reskin existing games with KiwiFarms references/images like some romhacks or something?
OP made a couple mega man references, an NES romhack would be neat and truly universal in terms of hardware compatibility.

get a VPS and host the git repo (with gitea) and the game there
rdp.sh takes crypto payments
 
Could help with code too. Haven't done a ton of things with Phaser specifically (usually use Godot for games), but js/ts is what I do day in and out for work so.
 
I don't know shit about programming but you're welcome to take my idea and run with it. It came to me as a joke while posting in the Boogie thread. Do you remember the old flash game Interactive Buddy? Well remake it as Interactive Boogie. The character is already fat shapped and the functionality is there just add a boogie skin, voice lines, relevant accessories (Mtn Dew, FaddyCoins, the gun, etc) and interaction options. Maybe offer a view different versions of Boogie (Francis, Early Boogie, Late Boogie, Tipples the Clown, etc)

If you take the existing game and build off it then it shouldnt be too hard for someone who actually knows how to code, and such a game would likely get featured on MATI and the front page since its a product of the farms and should be a good laugh to play.

awesome! I didn't set the thread to watch so didn't see how many posts this got!

Im gonna try and get the game on GitGud first and that will also have the art files. I am going through my code to make sure its sanitized. I have a nightmare that some turbo autist could get my code handwriting fingerprint and tie it to my IRL OSS code.
