Does Cosmos Have the Right Idea, But the Wrong Means?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Cosmos was raised on Tumblr a bit, wasn't she? It'd explain a few things, but from what she's said here and there, the Farms snapped her out of it, and now she's still trying to figure out where she stands on things. I think without her, the Farms would have a different feel to it, especially in Community Watch, but in either a good or bad way? Hard to say.

I'll be honest in saying that Cosmos was one of the reasons I continued lurking the Farms, because it was kinda off-putting, weird, and fascinating that a sweetheart would affiliate herself with someplace as harsh and raw, but I think that's what makes the Farms so unique. People of all kinds and from many different backgrounds gather here because they have one thing in common: laughing at lolcows. But then they stay because no one cares who you are or what you say as long as you respect others and don't do anything illegal. So even though Cosmos has acted like a sped here and there because her mind runs a mile-a-minute, I think she recognizes what makes the Farms different from everywhere else and that's why she's been here for so long.

I may silently disagree with her on things while at the same time appreciating the awareness she's bringing about the environment and horrors of Islam, but I understand why she's here and there's something about her that makes people look to her. Politics brings out the bad side in everyone, however, I think given how passionate she is here that she can do some great and productive things IRL if she chooses to go down that route. If anyone has a chance to help change the world a little bit or make some form of impact somewhere, with some hard work, it'd be Cosmos.

Also, if magical girls were a thing, she'd probably be one of the big ones every girl would look up to, no doubt. And I don't think it's just because of her Sailor Cosmos avatar.

It's kinda creepy if you made this thread without asking her first.

Cosmos was raised Catholic, which is typically conservative.

Since when? North American Catholics are pretty liberal except for abortion. It's one of the reasons why the Cardinals won't pick from here, according to my Catholic friends.

In my defense, this thread was made from a joke. You can ask and thank @The Pink Panther for that.

I don't think Catholics in and of themselves are considered liberal. The Catholic Church raping children and covering it up, their stance on abortion, their submissive teachings with children involving beatings and indoctrination. I guess it reminds me of Islam in some ways.

I just don't think that she handles her emotions very wel

I just find her confusing. I constantly see her referred to as "The nicest person on the board" but every interaction I've ever had with her has been her kicking the door in, shrieking at everyone in the thread and then stomping back out again when she gets any sort of negative reaction. That's not to say that I think she's a bad person, I just don't think that she handles her emotions very well when it comes to politics, and much more often than not that results in a lot of profane outbursts against people that she's personally deemed morally reprehensible for whatever reason. I'll be honest: It's usually a strawman.

Well, you haven't really interacted with me outside of A&H. I'm quite a pleasant person when politics aren't involved.

And I've stopped visiting A&H for the most part because I recognize that I get too riled up and need to work on it. In my defense, a lot of people on A&H aren't interested in new viewpoints any more than I am (not all of them, but a not insignificant number). And to be fair, while I have been a sperg sometimes there have been other times when I'm not upset at all and people still act like I'm being a hysterical shrieking woman who needs to be sedated. Kind of insulting.

In any case, I'm mostly taking a break from politics because I'd rather focus on my work and relationships.

First of all, this is a incredibly sweet post of you to make and I really appreciate it!

And yeah, I'm a certified oldfag, been here since late 2014. I've seen the Farms grow and evolve in the time; most of my fellow oldfags have gone their separate ways but I'm still here. I do really enjoy this community even when I don't always agree with it, and I can always come here for a good laugh (or a bad cringe).

It's kinda weird having a thread about me but I'll roll with it! People are being nice, at least.

Are you drunk or something? First of all, conservative religious beliefs don't mean conservative political beliefs. Second of all, 'raping children' is an abhorrent act and isn't a doctrine of her church. You make it sound like all Catholic people are okay with it.

Actually, she WAS the reason why I signed up. She is a great representation of forums. Discussion, opinion, level headed, above all, welcoming.

I meant liberal being modern, and conservative being traditional. I don't wish to demean her religion, but some Catholic children WERE molested by priests inside the church.

Don't worry cosmos we love you. No homo

If the thread is inappropriate, you're welcome to report it.

I don't think she deserves the unwanted flask that A&H offers. She's too sweet of a person for that. That being said, politics DOES bring out the ugly in people. It doesn't help that like she said, a fair few of posts there are /pol/, "edgy" strawmen.

I'm happy there is constructive criticism on here. It actually taught me a lesson of how to present myself on here as well. Take that what you will.

Oh, I know. Hence why I exclusively reigned the topic in to politics. I have no idea how you act everywhere else on the board, I'm only speaking from the experience inside of this one because A&H does not seem make you a happy person. A&H is just a naturally contentious board because it's impossible for the culture here to move in a singular direction. By it's nature it's going to cause someone to have their toes stepped on, because unlike other boards where the entire point is "Amber is fat and let's make fun of her" you're going to have a large swathe of the posters who believe that interpretation is wrong.

There's a virtually-unanimous understanding that Connor Bible is fat and we would not have sex with him, but there's no unanimous way to approach politics, so A&H winds up more splintered than any other board. It is naturally going to breed division to some extent because two people can look at one topic (IE: Immigration) and have two extremely different, competing viewpoints. There's just no way to make this board move in lock-step without an extreme amount of over-moderation.

There's always going to be a slap-fight somewhere in A&H, it just can't be helped. If you're someone who doesn't like slap-fights, it's probably not going to be a pleasant place.

@Cosmos is the prime example of a goody two shoes magical girl as the ultimate form of sailor moon.

As an evil magical girl I should hate her in principle, but I think she is very cool. I like how she brings a counterpoint to what otherwise would be an echo chamber, and do enjoy a lot of her posts, and I like to read her thoughts even in those few times I might disagree.

One of my favorite people to follow, for sure.

Does that answer your question?

To some point, it does. It tells me you are personally biased, and in a subsequent post, you said you joined the forums BECAUSE of her. Either you are infatuated with her personality (which isn't the same as wanting an affective relationship with her, but I can't speak for your thinking), or perhaps you just admire someone wading deep into the swamp of adversity and fighting like the last shining beacon of whatever ideological leanings you profess.

That said, I will reiterate that I think @Cosmos is a good person, and I haven't seen her act out when outside of A&H, but it's still important for her to realize that contrary viewpoints will always exist. Nobody here is a hero, or special. The same boot applied to the back of your neck is the one on mine, and we're just regular people trying to thrive in the wider world.

It's fucking scary, and while we may hate eachother's stances, we shouldn't be so easily divided as by a simple label or two. You'll find commonalities with just about anyone. Just need to look.

She's a libtard that posts on Kiwifarms. What's not to hate?

I don't hate her, I like her posting. She does good OPs for Community Watch and at least she enjoys the act of watching things burn. I do disagree with her political beliefs, however (same old left-wing shit), but that doesn't mean I hate her. Her OPs are some of the best on the site.

It tells me you are personally biased,
Fair enough. Although I do try to find some middle ground, well am trying, sometimes it isn't easy to take both sides in an issue. Politics has a bias, but at least try to see a different perspective on it.

I had to look up infatuated. I admire her personality, yes you're right. But I don't wish to have a sexual relationship with her. Her beliefs does go against the echo chamber as we mentioned. I enjoy it.

You're right. There are times where opinions will differ from yours. Sometimes, we are passionate about them a bit TOO much. I have talked to her a few times. She's great to talk to to say the least. Relatable.

I have met other people on this site where I talk to regularly so that is a good thing.
