Don't Hug Me I'm Scared

As someone who has always been fascinated by "dark" media that was ostensibly created for children, I absolutely love how this series utilizes childlike elements to manipulate the viewer psychologically. I really like reading people's theories about the show, and even though it bugs me that there was no concrete meaning ever revealed I also think it is a really brave creative decision to leave the interpretation for the most part up to the viewer. Too many movies or TV shows seem to think that they have to spoon-feed everything to the viewers, treating them like speds, but DHMIS forces the viewer to come up with their own meaning.
Also it's just really fun to show the videos to people who haven't heard of them before. It's kind of like the webseries equivalent of dead baby jokes, where the entertaining part isn't necessarily just the content but also the reaction of people to it.

So I happen to like MatPat/Film Theory's interpretation of DHMIS, which features the primary theme of mistrust of sponsorship for creative projects/how sponsorship can lead to advertising and compromise the original vision. I feel that, unlike his take on Salad Fingers, there is enough evidence to make that interpretation more than somewhat viable.

The creators of DHMIS apparently turned down a lot of sponsorship offers for their series. However, this trailer looks far more high-budget and includes three logos of supposed sponsors. Of note is the logo for "Conaco" - which is owned by Conan O'Brien of all things, wtf. I also don't like the looks of "Super Deluxe", which has a YouTube channel full of what looks like clickbaity garbage and vaguely surrealist nonsense.

If MatPat's interpretation was correct - although it may be totally wrong of course - this means that the creators have sold out and are total hypocrites.

So either my favorite theory is wholly incorrect, or the DHMIS team are no better than the people they criticized in their original series.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But yeah, that was a surprise to see this is happening.

It would be amazing if the creators did some "biting the hand that feeds you" commentary regarding their sponsors, if they do have them. Normally I wouldn't hold my breath, but considering the writing/quality of the original series it makes me hope that the creators haven't sold out completely.

If MatPat is to be believed, the new installment will be "REEEEEEEEEEEE Drumpf"

Oh for FUCK's sake.

Isn't American Horror Story enough?

Plus, the creators are British. If there's one thing I hate, it's non-Americans getting their panties in an angry wad over American politics.

I hope so too, especially because of the BetterHelp shitstorm that's brewing concurrently. It's more on the nose and more original than yet another thing getting mad about Trump as if he's the worst thing happening to humankind.

Vailskibum94 made a somewhat recently made video covering how production is going with the DHMIS show, we've known that the filming process has been done for some time now but they recently gave some new updates and the like.

Also as a kind of extra addition, to the video dude who made the Ed Edd n Eddy - Where Did All The Love Go rap made an interesting video talking about how the DHMIS TV show is probably only going to have one season.

Kinda mixed on the new designs Red looks fine and I kinda prefer Yellow's new look to the original but duck feels kind of off.

i would wager a guess the new series isnt going to be a lore show and will instead go for a horror comedy route which is best because the story is actually done. hence why it also also makes sense that it'll only be one season. only so much you can do with the concept

I liked the show a lot, I'm happy they ditched the pilot's plot, and I think the lighter tone was the way to go.

I think the show is one of the best things i've seen in a while, and i think a lot of it comes from the insane humor of it.

The tv show is like Ren and Stimpy but with puppets. After watching the show, I think they should have done a movie instead.

I've seen so many dumb "theories" or "explanations" about this really funny series. It's always some shit like either standard twitter/reddit ass "OH THE REAL MESSAGE IS AGAINST CAPTIALISM!!!" or the ed edd and eddy/pokemon "ACTUALLY THE TRUTH IS IT WAS ALL A COMA/DEAD PERSON DREAM AND EVERYONE IN THE SHOW IS EITHER SHARING THE DREAM OR SPLINTERS OF ONE OF THE MAIN GUYS MIND WHO IS DEAD ANDOR IN A COMA!!!"
It's just a series parodying childrens edutainment shows with some puppets doing funny shit. Sure there's background lore show shown or hinted but it's clearly not those generic ass big boy brain claims and clearly some wacky in-universe logic shit. I watched the new show when it came out a short while back and it was quality stuff all the way through that somehow managed to carry the vibe of the original music video shorts from years back for whole 30-ish minute episodes.

I quite enjoyed the new show tho I feel the last two eps went too much onto lore bullshit
The lore bullshit, at least the weird shit with the smart yellow guy and everything that goes on with him is hinted at in episodes before the last two if I remember this correctly from when I rewatched some of the episodes implying there's some weird wacky timeshit at play, kinda like how the simulated reality entrapment loreshit thing of 5 and 6 of the original music shorts was kinda carried over from the computer one . It's like poetry, it rhymes, as the funny George guy says.

yea i saw someone say "this first episode is so anticapitalist" as a compliment and it clearly isnt? it's a satire of HR and upper managment but there's no chris chan-esque author figure going "free markets are BAAAAD". like DHMIS' success is entirely owed to the free market anyway, given it got big on youtube and then kickstarter which allowed them to make this show. without their success there the networks wouldnt have been so hands off, like with smiling friends (which I still think is better than this show even if i think the most of it - even the last two eps, barring the lore stuff - is very strong)

there is scant foreshadowing but i just was more into it as a comedy series with horror elements i didnt like them trying to develop a deeper narrative because it wont go anywhere interesting because the original shorts played all their cards. like if this lady represents the creator of the show or some sort of showrunner then the next one up will to have them meet the execs/creators in the next season or something
