DOOM

Gonna double post here but fuck it. Doom 64 has just gotten an age-rating for a possible PC and PS4 port.

Now this is interesting given that the game has gotten little in the way of representation outside of fan projects. Seeing it officially resurrected would be really cool. Though with the way the recent ports have been, it's likely the Bethesda account bullshit will stay.

Bethesda is apparently going to remove the always online shit for the doom re-releases now

How do you get this to run? I downloaded it but it doesn't really work the same way other mods do where I can load it up in ZDL or GZDoom.

I just take the pk3 file and drag and drop it onto the GZdoom executable.

Are you using GZdoom?
Yeah. I have the GZDoom components in the folder, but when I try opening the mod with GZDoom (dragging the mod to it), GZDoom doesn't open the mod, instead opening the base game (which I'm assuming is Doom II in this case, but it does that with Ultimate Doom as well).

You could try Zandronum or PRboom and see if that works. Do you have the latest GZdoom?

Still doesn't work with Zandronum. And I have the latest GZDoom.

Where did you download the mod? I'm wondering if that has something to do with it since the folder itself is not set up like any other Doom mod I've played; it's got pictures for some reason.

I love Doom 64 EX and Brutal Doom 64 but seeing an official rerelease would be the shit.
Especially considering how relatively unknown 64 is.

Doom 64 isn't really unknown. Kinda bombed on the N64 because it didn't have modern features of FPS at the time but among Doom fans, and there's shitloads of them, everyone remembers Doom 64. It's regarded as the unofficial Doom 3. On that note, this video on Doom 64 is awesome.

I wouldn't call it unknown either, especially since people have been factoring the game in with fan theories regarding the Doom Slayer in Doom 2016, but it is probably the least played game in the series just by sheer virtue of not seeing any major re-release after its launch on Nintendo 64. It has been seeing a renaissance in recent years between Doom 64 EX and Brutal Doom 64, so making an official re-release is a smart move on Bethesda's part.

Civvie 11 marathons got me back into old FPSes, including Duke3D and of course DOOM.

I pried the commercial WADs from various old purchases and stuck them into gzdoom. No mods, and no extra handicaps enabled in the source port except a WASD/mouse/E to open doors setup. No autosave. Fuck a Brutal Doom because it is for 12-year-olds who want to millennial optimize grampa Phil's memories.

I jump into it off and on when I have a minute. I've been trying to teach myself where secrets are instead of relying on guides. It's a lot of fun just to drift through, strafe, gun down monsters and pick off hitscanners from safe corners. DOOM hasn't aged. It's damned near perfect.

They'll find a way to fuck it up. My pipe dream is that they'll add back in the missing monsters but a guy is working on that right now so.

I can feel this guy’s huffing his farts from my speakers

Even that autist Mauler called him a faggot (it’s timestamped)

And here’s the timestamp where he defends himself (and still huffs plenty of farts)

The neckbeards were iffy on Doom 2016 and then they suspiciously changed their minds shortly after release. They'll nitpick as usual and then go right back to praising the game.

He thinks they’re turning it into Ass Creed by adding climbing and grappling. He knows that plenty of similar shit was in Wolf TNO and it played fine, right? Hell, I’d reckon the climbing CAME from Wolf: TNO
