DOOM

Wow, speak of the devil.

It was pretty obvious something was up with the Invasion mode, so this doesn't exactly surprise me. I'll gladly take a Horde mode instead, although it kind of sucks it sounds like it's just a single player thing instead of co-op.
In the streams Hugo and the other guy do they talked about how they tried doing Co-Op and it just doesn't work at all in Eternal due to all the resource management.

Apparently a number of stealth nerfs/buffs were already discovered.
  • Spirits blow up quicker when you cook them.
  • Cursed Prowlers make a sound when they spawn and give you a blood punch charge when they curse you.
  • Dark Lord doesn't heal as much, so the fight is less tedious.
  • TAG 1 stage 1 nerfs have been reverted. However, the end of stage encounter on map 2 and boss fight on 3 got nerfed somewhat. As a whole, more stuff was buffed in than nerfed.
  • Classic mode for the Master Level is apparently a lot of fun and worth checking out.

I still don't like them nerfing/buffing without including it in the release notes, but these changes seem like they're generally moving in the right direction.
It actually was put out in notes here: DOOM Eternal - Next Gen & Update 6 Release Notes

Also Hugo definitely talked about the first 3 points in the previous streams, those are definitely an improvement because they were all fucking annoying/tedious to fight.

I can see that, it's just that the campaign is already kind of one long horde mode in a way (especially the Slayer Gates) so I'm curious what they'll do to change it up. Hopefully add a scoring system or something.

This is probably autistic and dumb as fuck, but maybe it could be one of those "just for fun" things to think about.

If you had the time, skill, and knowledge nd were going to make your own classic Doom megawad, what kind of stuff would you incorporate?

Would you only use Doom or would you include the new creatures and weapons from Doom II?

Would you do the classic episode format of the first game or go for the continuous approach that Doom II did?

Any specific mods you'd include?

Assuming you decide to include mods, would you add any new stuff like the textures from Eviternity or some of the monsters and items on Realm 667's site?

Would you aim for a Total Conversion mod or keep it simple?

Doom Eternal is $15 right now. I didn't care that much for Doom 2016, it was okay but I never got very far. Is Eternal different and better enough to be worth the risk?

Hard to say, really. I was up for d16 because of multiplayer part (that one was awesome), but single... Meh.
Eternal tho, well yeah it does have moments, but, Hugo and his team have fucked up their own lore, canceled their one schizophrenia with another and so on...
From story side it doesn't. From the action perspective, well, it surely does but be aware of macro-management and a lot of annoying platforming parts.

Oh and batttlemode is fucking boring

Eternal feels slightly less arena focussed, still plenty of them but broken up by more smaller fights, and some awful platform sections. Eternal also has more variety in its environments and has a more arcady look, with brighter colours and some silly sound effects. Basically if you wanted everything in Doom 16 turned up to 11, you'll like it.

I would take it, it's not the same experience as OG doom's and especially not like 2016 but it is really fresh and I enjoyed playing it all the way to the end.
I didn't bother for the DLC's so if you can get those also I think it might be a generally good purchase, I would definitely take the risk and just spend those $15 for some good entertainment.

It's ok. Faster, IMO. You really expected not stand in one place and shoot. Plus, they added a feature to scour level for collectables after you beat it and before you exit it

A lot of people went into Eternal expecting "Doom 2016 but more" but it's really not. Eternal's got a much larger focus on resource management and split-decision thinking. Do I focus on that Mancubus taking potshots at me or should I find some fodder demons to refill my armor or health? You better be willing to learn Eternal's mechanics though since it's far less forgiving than 2016; where 2016 let you get away with killing everything with the super shotgun, Eternal requires you to maximize your arsenal if you don't want to get your ass kicked. Once you get past the learning curve (and get past the first two levels where you don't have shit), the game's action outpaces 2016 by a wide margin.

Also I'm probably the only one who liked the platforming sections. They had more going on than the ones in 2016 and at least you don't instantly die when you fail them in Eternal.

If you didn't like 2016, Eternal is different enough to where I can say that you don't have to worry about disliking it for the same reasons. For me personally, Eternal's gameplay is far more exhilarating than 2016 though I also think the story is not nearly as good (if that even matters to you).

You can download the game if you have a GamePass subscription, but yeah $15's a good price.

FWIW I enjoyed it enough to justify buying it at full price, but then again I really liked Doom 2016. The levels are more linear than 2016 but the actual combat is a fair deal more complex and has a faster tempo overall than its predecessor.

It's an overall good game. Story is shit. I get that Doom games have a porn approach to story, but they actually had a pretty interesting idea in 2016 that was shittily expanded in Eternal.

It's faster than 2016 and its combat is like a mix of FPS and fighting games. It has annoying platforming and puzzle sections that aren't bad the first time, but if you're replaying for intense combat, it definitely gets in the way.

OST in 2016 is better.

When they revealed that Hayden was the Seraphim my first thought was, "There is no way you guys had that in mind when you wrote 2016." It just got worse from there.

They didn't have anything in mind when writing 2016, by Hugos own admission he wrote the story for 2016 in like 2 days.
Edit: I'm doing my nightmare run for the first time and the gladiator fight is infuriating.

If I made a Doom megaWAD, I would use the Doom II bestiary and items, but no custom monsters or items. I am a purist. I don't even like it when people change the font or the HUD (it's perfect, leave it alone).

I would not use any Lost Souls or Pain Elementals because they are lame and make the game a slog.

Definitely would use different music though. That was always the coolest part of custom WADs. But leave the sound effects the same (again, they are perfect).

As far as difficulty, I would make the game fun for all ages. HNTR would be piss easy, HMP would be significantly harder, and UV would be balls on hard for the people who have been playing Doom since 1993.

So basically, the interesting worldbuilding and lore of 2016 was good by pure accident?

That's just...astounding. It sure as hell doesn't feel like it was made in 2 days. And ironically it felt as though it had more consideration for its ideas than the entirety of Eternal's story.

Hugo must have realized that Carmack was right.

Since Doom related, here's the actual dimentional merge for you. Doom 2 meets Doom 3 thing. Armor.
