DOOM

Honestly I like both Doom 2016 and Eternals gameplay quite a lot, and from what I've seen of the Dark Ages stuff so far I like. HOWEVER, between the shitty requirements and further leaning into the badass le epic Doomslayer heckin chungus muh lore shit that bogged Eternal down that's two strikes for me. One more and they're out.

I cannot play this game, my cpu is ryzen 5800x but my gpu is a gtx 1080ti. Thanks ID for pushing raytracing over letting more people be able to play the game. The price is also $80 here as well. Fuck modern ID.

Honestly, I'm not sure what it is about his sound for Doom that makes people like him so much. I've always felt like Doom 2016 and Eternal's soundtracks felt rather "robot farty" rather than metal. It seems like the name Mick Gordon matters more to 2016/Eternal fans than his sound. Then again, people who're big fans of Doom right now come off as rather easily pleased or even like a hivemind in terms of how identical their love for the games are.
If half of his claims are true(and given the response I'm leaning towards them being true) then Marty Stratton did him dirty. I think that's the bigger sticking point. His music did have its own unique charm but it's far less of a make or break point than the manner of his departure.

Thought Doom 2016 was decent but I just can't get into Eternal. Dark Ages is interesting but it's not based on the classic stuff for a change.

I think they did him dirty but I feel like Marty is a fall guy.

Is anyone else getting quake vibes from the dark ages art direction?
My number one concern going into the reveal trailer was "please don't be a prequel" and that got smashed out, and then I just slowly went "this should've been Quake" as the trailer went on.

Then I saw this and went "this IS just Quake"

Missed chance to call it DOOM: Quake.

I thought I was the only one who remembered that Mick threatened to leave if some of Killer Instinct's characters, B. Orchid specifically, didn't have their designs covered up.

Mick also said he was gonna re-do Kan Ras and Riptors theme and never did. I seriously don't know what his excuse was for not having the Eternal soundtrack done in time. He had what, 3 years? He was making songs for Killer Instinct in the span of 1 week and those songs had way more shit involved like lyrics, completely different genres, and tons of stems. I seriously don't get how you make and mix this within 1-4 weeks
But a soundtrack consisting of a single genre with most of it being ambient can't get done within years.

It would be nice to see their take on Quake.

Have you tried yt-dlp?
It's some issue where it's an MP4 when downloaded but the forum doesn't detect it as a video file. I think it's due to how short it is and originally being a gif. Usually Twitter video download sites work fine.

To be fair, Doom 2016 played more like a modernized Quake than anything else.

Doomguy is now cringe thanks to the way NPCs idolized him in Eternal, and he's also overstayed his welcome.

That said, ID is quite technically competent at game design even when I don't like the gameplay. If let's plays show this as something more to my style than Eternal I'll probably give it a buy, I can skip cringe cutscenes.

I think the chainsaw shield is cool. I don't give a shit about the wrap-around story. The giant robot thing is either going to be very cool or very lame. I don't get what's going on with all the sliders, but if I can crank it up I won't really care, probably.

Doomguy worship is fanboy shit the devs run with to I guess... show how much they "get it"? Feels very "how do ya do, fellow kids".

"DOOMGUY IS BASICALLY AN ANGEL AND EVERYONE FEARS HIM BUT THINKS HES SUPER COOL, AND ALL THE DEMONS HAVE DEEP LORE ABOUT HOW COOL HE IS, ALL THE ANGELS THINK HES A CHAD, HE KILLS SATANGOD(?) AND HE WAS ALSO A SPACEWOLF IN MEDIEVAL FUTURE SPACE"

Wasn't this dude just a regular jerk off who got locked in the brig for punching his C.O, woke up to a demon invasion, and just got REALLY mad about it? That's what made him cool. It didn't need all this other stuff.

I really hate the badass murder golem nuDoom has turned the doomguy into. It was pretty entertaining in 2016 as a change of pace, plus there was still a decent amount of personality shining through. Unfortunately it seems like all the wrong lessons were learned from that game, and way more of Eternal is just this retard roaming about doing 'badass' stuff while everyone jerks off to how much of a badass he is. And lo and behold, Dark Ages looks like this all over again except now on Warhammer 40k branded crack.

This is my favorite piece of doom fanart by far and portrays him as he should be. He's wounded, cornered, probably scared - but he's brave, like a hero. His humanity is on full show, which is what nuDoom seems to forget exists. I guess its kinda like a John McClane sort of thing, a normal dude rising up to overcome a great challenge, tired and afraid, but pressing on because he knows its all down to him now and its the right thing to do. When I see a mute stoic 8ft bulky dude wearing medival power suit and riding a robo dragon to fight demons in a 40k castle, thats not doomguy. Its a friggin replacement.

This alone is why I always refuse to see Nu-Doom and Classic Doom within the same canon.

I think that the pure demigod of wrath idea fits the Doom Slayer in Nu-Doom but I cannot just say "they're the same person" regardless of hell-ptsd or what not
