DOOM

Nigga how many hours do people play games for to finish them in a single sitting?
For the new Doom stuff the pros can finish in like 2-3 hours, but you gotta finish the game like 20 times already to get that good, so.....

Doom 3 > everything after
Im not a fan at all of base Doom 3, but I do enjoy that ID took the risk route in doing it very different instead of just "lets make classic doom again but in 3d"

Saw people comparing with the Ice Age Baby.

In turn, Point Man in F.E.A.R. 3 look like the baby's dad.

MatPat voice: Is Doomguy a descendent of Point Man?

But it like isn't, though? Most of the stuff in the game outside of maybe art design are in pretty clear contrast to modern shooters, Eternal even more so.

checkpoint save system. unskippable first-person cutscenes. scripted executions. simple map geometry. arbitrary upgrade systems. overwrought presentation. it's console slop in every way, a glorified Halo TC mod. Eternal is even worse - every map is a bunch of corridoors between obvious enemy encounter arenas with pointless platforming and a far more retarded Simon Says combat system.

TNT Evilution had some banger tunes though.
True, however, its songs are not really fit for the length of the levels like Metals track will usually loop a good few times and while its a great track it just doesn't help when I have constant heavy guitar music in my ears while trying to find an exit. This happens on more maps than it should too.

However I could also just be braindead for not being to able to beat these levels in a short time, that's a possibility too.

I hate nu doom artstyle it's so gay and sterile, it tries to be edgy but feels corporate and safe, like some modern adult swim shit soytoon shit, i know Doom was never really a horror game, but where are the impaled corpses? Demons look like monsters but not really demons, violence is cartoonish and bland.
I don't know how to explain it, the best I can describe it is a millennial's vision of something metal and saturday cartoons.
What do you count as NuDoom? I get this feel from Eternal onwards, but IMO 2016's artstyle didn't feel gamey or tongue-in-cheek, and while I agree that 2016 didn't look "demonic" in a pop-christian sense, its grotesque Gigeresque twist on things (my favorite example: the slug-piloted flesh mecha that guard the Crucible) had a gravitas to it that Eternal's gamey "highres pseudoclassic Doom except when it's something from Metalocalypse" style doesn't.

Doom guy being a descendent of the wade family makes a disturbing amount of sense.

If only warner bros saw fit to do something with it.

It would, except IIRC he's already a descendant of one BJ Blaskowitz, the American super-commando who took down mecha-Hitler.

as said above, his bloodline's already been decided
To quote Tom Hall: "Originally, I had (if I recall correctly):1940s B.J. > 1960s Arthur (newscaster) > 1980s Billy > . > . > . way later .... > DOOM guy (although this was very patriarchal for these three.) I had it that being a hero skips every other generation." and later on in the interview "...but for the old games: Wolf3D, Spear (Spear of Destiny), Keen1-3, Keen Dreams, Keen 4-6...(many generations)... DOOM 1&2."

This is also why its exhausting to play. It really is nonstop action in every good and bad way. No wonder oldheads don't particularly care for this Eternal, I'm a younger guy and even I have trouble keeping up with all the crap going on.
In a handful of ways, I'm the exact person Eternal was purpose-made for, and while the base game certainly meets everything I wanted, the DLC is the point at which I feel exactly what you're describing:

Genuinely exhausting, Super Heavy spam, and expecting basically perfect play from you at all times - even just twitching my eyes to check ammo numbers would be immediate death, and there was never a chance for a couple seconds to take a breath, check resources, etc.

I particularly don't like games that seem to expect 'perfect play' by default because the wiggle room just short of perfection is the zone where I get to have fun experimenting, pushing boundaries of the system on my own terms, and discover my own 'play style' in a given game (I think faggy reviewers refer to it as "player expression", but "your own style" sounds a bit less gay maybe).

Definitely worth having "perfect play" challenges, those are fun as one-off cheevos and for bragging rights, but at the very least let me play to the end of the narrative to get the full story without throwing that "no fun allowed anymore" hyper sweaty shit at me.

Then Wolfenstein 2 the new Moronus made BJ half-Jewish, which made no sense. Does that mean Doomguy is still a partial jew, or were his parents Christian?

Well, the machine game titles are pretty much their own universe and have no bearing on anything else, and Doomguy's lineage has no purpose really. Though you can give me trashcans but making BJ Jewish fit the story, iirc they already did that in TNO and TOB.

I know what you mean. My favourite FPS series is now only known as a graphics engine.
Oh, what, you want a high-octane arena shooter with interesting weapons, interesting backstory, and varied game modes?

Too bad, best we can do is a Fortnite skin of a rapper that died of a drug overdose and Peter Griffin. Fuck you Epic I hope you lose everything.
