DOOM

Glory kills are still in the game they just made the very odd decision to make them aerial takedowns only. Try jumping on an enemy and you'll see them trigger.
Yeah I've been doing it but it makes me feel sort of retarded.
They are going off of Steam player numbers.
Its on gamepass day one too so many are probably basically renting it. I will say I likely won't finish this one. I have limited gaming time and it's not just making me feel like I'm having fun. Just got to the first dragon segment and it feels so mediocre. The combat just isn't as intense as Eternal. I'm not saying I want Eternal 2 but with what it is attempting it isn't doing it with as much ferocity. It's not as intense as Serious Sam but feels like it wants to be one. The audio is so muted too nothing feels satisfying. I may play it a bit more but man I had more fun with the Jurassic park arcade shooter I played at a pizza joint the other week than Dark Ages.

Maybe someone here can convince me to stick with it.

I just realized that this game would've been a perfect sequel to Hexen 2 or Heretic 2,
In fact you can see copies of Hexen and Heretic in the dev livestreams.
But considering Hexen/Heretic is on a situation where one of the games isnt even listed anymore (Heretic 2), its just not an IP that will sell well.

Imo it feels to me kinda like the new Shadow Warrior games, they are supposed to be the same series, but youre better off as thinking of separate stuff with the same name.

Btw: go play Shadow Warrior, the DOS version is free.

AFAIK Heretic 2 never got a digital release because it was owned by Activision and not ID like the rest of the series, since ID didn't act as publishers for it and only licensed the Quake 2 engine to Raven.

Now that Activision is under the same Microsoft umbrella as ID, there's technically nothing stopping them from giving it a re-release.

Who would have ever guessed the man currently in charge of such an iconic, popular IP would be such a fat faggot.

Anyway, I played Eternal a few times through when it came out. You all think any of the DLC is worth checking out while I wait for the TDA to go on sale?
I imagine it depends on if you liked Eternal a lot. The first DLC was brutally hard to the point that they nerfed the levels after I’d cleared all of it, and part 2 is much easier due to the replacement for the Crucible being busted as fuck.

Eternal was just bing bing wahoo wearing Doom's skin

I don't play games intended for retards
stellar blade? painkiller? serious sam? sure dude
Doom now has girlboss cutscenese at all is worse than a hundred niggers being fed down your throat in any other game. Nothing is sacred anymore.

In case anyone was on the fence, synthetic man dicksuckers are npc flouride brained retards who are literally less human than you. I'm autistic enough to be affected by this ~80 iq ragebait; but its shocking how this guy is typing out full paragraphs of exhausted /v/ talking points, the effort and time involved to repeat the same 5 groundbreaking 'anti-woke' ideas for the past decade; and just how little engagement anyone seems to be giving you. God damn I hate millenial internet users so fucking much, literally every advertising and engagement bait tactic was perfected on you slush-brained husks and you shovel it down your own throat and beg for more. Thank you for reading my spergout.

SLOP!

I actually take video games VERY SERIOUSLY. If I don't like one that you like, then you are clearly retarded.
You're right. I should be more like 30 year old synthrider, and write paragraphs upon paragraphs upon paragraphs in the DOOM thread about how I don't like or play any nu-DOOM. Since I am clearly better than the soi-consumer that enjoys this slop, and as previously stated I don't actually play any of the video games I care so much about; this information I divulge en mass will therefore consist of opinions given to me by carefully curated sources (synthetic man and /v/ threads). I will take video games VERY SERIOUSLY, if you (a philistine) like the video games my all knowing, woke detecting supermind deems SLOP, I will feel moral superiority over you. After all, who in their right mind would play a video game for 15 hours when they could spend 15 hours calling that game woke on the Kiwifarms DOOM thread?

P.S. I don't actually care that he doesn't like the game. Thoughalbietever it is fucking lunacy to shit on a game for as long and as fervently as he has, given that he hasn't played it, doesn't care to play it, and apparently "isn't interested in it at all" (behead all synthcucks o algo)

the funniest part is the only games I’ve actually seen him talk about playing are the outer worlds and fallout 4, two decidedly mediocre mainstream “SLOP!!!” games

I see people complaining about the shield. It's a prequel set in an obviously medieval setting. He is supposed to be like a knight. I don't mind the shield. Doing the shield cahrge on large groups of enemies and watching them explode is fucking cool. Bouncing the enemy's attacks back at them and moving in for a melee finish is cool as well. This would explain the dragons as well. As far as the dragon riding parts and the mech parts vehicle combat has been a part of FPS for years now. Developers like to use it to try and break the game up some. It doesn't always work out well. I haven't gotten that far into the game yet.
Sub-$800 ones.

Exactly - it's all in the cutscenes, no girlbosses in gameplay.
They might as well get a peasant box at that point and hook a keyboard and mouse up to it.
While there are other reasons at play ($70 price tag, ray tracing capable GPU required on PC, post-peak COVID lockdowns), I think the main reason TDA isn't doing as well is simply down to it being the complete opposite of Eternal. It seems to me that many of the game's fans didn't touch 2016 beforehand (the antithesis to Eternal) and I would have to imagine that those same people wanted Eternal 2; not an entirely different sequel prequel.

I'm sure the game will ultimately do fine, and as it was stated previously it will be seen as a divisive DOOM entry; but what really matters is that this might further push id to make the holy Quake reboot a reality.
It's not really the complete opposite of Eternal. Back when Eternal released people bitched about that as well. I would say it's more like Doom 2016 than Eternal. I haven't really playye dit much different than I did Doom 2016 and Eternal. Think of it like Doom 2016 with some melee combat thrown in. You can still circle strafe as much as you want. But now you have a shield you can use to knock attacks back at the enemies in the game. It's not as fast paced and frantic as Eternal.

Most the people bitching about Doom TDA are the types who say Doom 3 was a good Doom game. The kind of people that bitched about Doom Eternal and said the enemy designs were cartoonish when they were based on the designs from the original games. Doom 3 is probably the worst Doom game out there and probably the least Doom like out the entire series. People said it was a great game back then. But that was in the mid 2000's. Doom 2016 Eternal and TDA are what Doom 3 should have been. Instead id released a survival horror Doom/RE clone. Everything since Doom 2016 is just a modern spin on the old school Doom formula.
If you mean the 1993 game, duh. OG Doom holds the mantle of the only game to have been installed on more computers than Windows at some point. Netadmins used to block it because its multiplayer would bring entire networks to a standstill. It also houses one of the oldest and biggest modding communities with new, big releases dropping every single year, even by fellow kiwis.
If you mean the 2016 reboot, then it couldn't possibly fill in the shoes of its predecessor, but it was very successful, to the point where it revived the "oldschool" FPS genre, unfortunately giving us Newblood and its trooniversally worshipped "Quakeslop" like DUSK, AMID EVIL, Ultrakill + smaller titles from other studios - HROT, Project Warlock (actually a diamond in the rough), Ion Fury and that other tranny shooter whose dev got big mad at Yahtzee for criticizing it.
Dusk and Amid Evil are really good games. Amid Evil is basically a modern version of Heretic and Hexen.
I just realized that this game would've been a perfect sequel to Hexen 2 or Heretic 2, from the high fantasy setting to the more melee focused combat and the fact that you aren't fighting demons so much as weird eldritch interdimensional beings. Quake could also work, but ever since Quake 2, that was more focused on more sci-fi themes. Why the fuck is this a Doom game?
It's fine as a Doom game. I would like to see id do a modern version of Quake. They already have the whole combat arena thing Quake started.

Vehicle combat sections in FPS games usually aren't the best. If you have the game through gamepass just finish it since it's free. It's not like you spent money on it. It's a good game and probably one of the last ones that will be released for a while. At least from a big AA studio.

I liked Doom 2016 because it played a lot like Serious Sam
I wish. Doom 2016 would have been awesome if it had ambushes and densely-populated encounters. Instead, you get like a dozen enemies active at a time and every fight is telegraphed with a gore nest.

I don't think Doom DA was woke, I never saw anything woke in it.
But I don't think it is a good game IMHO or a good doom game.

The mechanics with the shield makes it in a way the primary weapon. You can throw it, you can parry and then whatever weapon you wield is more of a secondary choise.
Shield and parry is basically the new primary loop and it makes the game slower and is makes the actual weapons much less important as they are just what yiu use until you can use the shield again.

I really did not like the mech missions or the dragon missions either.

All in all I think it was a slower version of doom without diversity or weapons (shield is weapon #1 all the time)
That made it feel very repetitive and boring once chapter 8 or so rolled up. A doom game should not be boring. that is a really major problem.

Yeah, checking up again the Quake 3 characters, I can see Thira looks a bit like Major.

Anyway, I was testing my new monitor with the RTX on Eternal, and I dont really see it being that big of a difference to be worth. Maybe if I was one of these dudes that go grazy at minimal good graphics, I would care, but its just it, some shadows and reflections that I wont even notice mid fight?

Remember when the only characters that mattered in the game was Doomguy(not this reddit "DOOM SLAYER" bullshit) and his Super Shotgun?
JUST MAKE A NEW IP AT THIS POINT
If you want your dragons and your armored knights fighting armies of hell, go for it. Leave Doomguy out of it, tho, he should never be part of this sloppy Marvel Cinematic Universe bullshit nu-Doom is trying to pull.
Agreed, I liked Eternal alright but the diet 40k lore they tried injecting in was so fucking gay, but thankfully more or less easy to ignore outside the latter half of the game and the DLC.

I've heard literally nothing about this game online in my usual circles, I've been asking people who told me they loved eternal a few years ago telling me they couldn't finish it because it's too arcadey and platforming focus (but that's what I said years ago and I was mocked for it) and they aren't really interested in more of that if it's gonna cost $80. Is the Doom hype dying out?
I'm actually interested in knowing if Dark Ages is any good or how it plays because I loved 2016 and hated Eternal and I was kinda hoping it was a return to 2016's gameplay, but nobody I know is playing it or talking about it and that's shocking to me.

borrowed gamepass to try it out and it would have been better as a quake reboot. it feels fine but probably won't buy until its on a deep discount like when I bought 2016 or eternal
