DOOM

The 0 damage punch was lame; but you can just shoot fodder with a few shots from the Heavy Cannon to reliably setup a glory kill for health. I think it makes enough sense that they nerfed it though, it would probably make glory kills too easy for how much health they spit out.
It was really fun to double-melee kill stuff in 2016; but I got used to it being absent really quickly and replaced it with using the SSG to ignite and kill every fodder for 30 armor, which I think is equally satisfying.
I suppose it's unfortunate if you wanted to melee everything the entire game? But it's just not in the game; I don't see any reason to get mad that 2016 didn't have the Soul Cube or TDA didn't have the Unmaykr. They're just not in the game.

I think what really gets me about this whole argument is that in 2016 the melee was still for the most part not helpful anyways, especially on harder difficulties where if anything the melee was actively detrimental to you because their melee damage far outpaced your own so most if not every time you were better off just not engaging in melee.

Have trouble telling the nu-Vagary's sticky-spit projectile from all the other crap it spits out in the heat of battle.

Yyyyyyyyyyeaaaaaaaaahh, unless a later patch makes that bugaboo a little more cut and dry, I think I'm finished with The Dark Ages for the moment. I gave it a fair wag but there's just too many little things that detract from the experience that make it hard to recommend at $70 in this economy. (If you have Game Pass on the other hand then might as well knock yourself out.)

I give it a Not Recommended, but I am glad it exists (and admittedly would still greatly enjoy a hypothetical horde mode despite the design flaws, if one were to be released.)

That's really the core of my disgust. Ranked in list of melee weapons you could use by itself, I don't think there's a weaker comparison. Or at not at least one that easily comes to mind.

Like duke3d mighty boot is notoriously shit, but you can still kick a basic alien to death if needed. If they made a Doom eternal map where you had to fight even a SINGLE zombie with nothing but fist, it would be considered a joke on par with a doom terry wad

Big difference between bad but potentially usable, and JUST COMICALLY bad. And I refuse to be convinced it was ESSENTIAL to the games balance to not have it one iota Stronger.

legit the only thing going through my mind whenever I see sandy anywhere
On one hand, Romero is probably right.
On the other, Sandy says "Retarded"* and Romero is a nail painting faggot that hasn't done a single good thing since funding the Ion Storm games that weren't his.
*and, looking him up, he's made a lot of men imitating teenage girls and weepy fagz throw tantrums due to his RPG antics. He also brought to light a lot of insider info on Quake in "Why is Quake like that?"

I'm finding myself having to play this new game in short bursts, something about it doesn't quite mesh for me. I spent an IRL week in the level where they add the leader demons because I found those encounters grating and kept switching to something else.

You guys are right, Hugo is a hack and nuDoom is dogshit because the cutscenes are goofy and camp
Doom 3 had cutscenes and that wasn't one of it's bigger criticisms. nu-Doom "is dogshit" because it has womanly casual retards like you as it's target audience that enables them to incorporate shitty design decisions that are antithetical to Doom, and I haven't seen people calling the trilogy as a whole as shit so you're strawmanning. Usually, people have a problem with Eternal and more recently, TDA, 2016 is pretty universally praised. You know, that one game in the trilogy that doesn't have TL;DR cringy marvel cutscenes and actually tried appealing to oldschool FPS fans.
Feel free to write me another passive aggressive thesis paper I won't read past the first sentence since that's all it takes for me to realize I am dealing with a mentally and emotionally handicapped adult.

All the doom games are good and have their own "fanbase" that just rabbitholes into the ones they like. Also each doom game (except 3/tda) is ""replayable"" in the sense that there's enough other content for it that you never have to leave the game you like and interact with the rest of the doom community. Doom 1/2 have wads, 16 had snapmap and mp, eternal has custom levels and master levels, tda campaign is pretty long. There's really no reason for r1b1ks or other 'og doom' guys to sperg out over TDA because it has so little effect on the actual gameplay or legacy of the things they like. Likewise og doom drama (sgt mark iv, that guy that owns gzdoom, doomworld shenanigans) doesn't spill over into anything else

Sonic is a very thin idea for a franchise and each game just Sonic Team taking another crack at the same gameplay formula. Mods, replayable content, it doesnt matter because its all about going forward very fast/snapping onto enemies and one-hitting them.

Doom autism is all compartmentalized; nudoom autists that obssess over Hugo Martin not respecting the legacy of 16 are 1 to 1 the same type of retards that crater all those platformer fanbases into infinite arguments over gameplay and asthetic purity; but this only affects nudoom people. WAD people don't care because their fanbase isn't anchored to official content.

If all Doom games were """truly doom""" like some spergs want, then it would be just fps Sonic with an equally spergy fanbase, with each person rallying around whichever attempt at the formula got 2% "more right" and rabble rousing forever. If all doom games were the same thing, but again; we would be completely beholden to Id to deliver whatever tripe they feel like putting out.

Also no furries/anime dogshit does wonders for a fanbase.
