Eternal fans are annoying, low IQ tourists who will cry and shit themselves, always trying to get the last word in, cause their favorite non-Doom game(they are big Doom fans tho, you have to trust them on this) was insulted. Gee, it's almost as if there is a reason why Eternal fans are now probably what Skyrim fans are to the RPG circles, as both are overrated shitty games only the biggest casuals/console shitters like. I am not optimistic about the future of the franchise, I already outlined why a few posts above.
Also, let's not kid ourselves here, Eternal is just a shitty Ultrakill clone. It is a trend chaser, nothing more. Ironic, considering that boomer shooters are usually Doom clones, that Doom itself started copying the innovations the clones brought to the franchise, only for boomer shooters to start ripping off Eternal(again, a poor Ultrakill ripoff) in an endless cycle of dicksucking. What I am saying is that retro FPS devs and nu-iD and their fans are all gay and probably love cum more than anything else in their lives. I want Doom, not bing bing wahoo and I am just sick and tired of an Ultrakill skinwalker being paraded around as a "Doom game" by said semen enjoyers.

I already talked about how Doom Eternal is not a Doom game, at this point if you took these posts together you could have an entire page of nothing but my own opinions on the subject. What gets me is the base game doesn't have DRM (according to steam store page) but the DLCs still have it
The base game had the DRM removed at release. Someone released a version of Eternal with no DRM and the pirates snapped it up. There was no reason to pay for the anti-piracy software when it was already on all the torrent sites DRM free.

Do the DLC ever go on sale? If not, there is your answer, sometimes the base game is given away at discounts or giveaways but you're expected to fork up full price for DLCs. The "pseudo free to play" if you will, COD for example does infrequent discounts on the base games but they practically never discount the DLCs on Steam, yes even for the games released over a decade ago, and the base games go back to full price(50-60 US Dollars) when the discount period is up. If the game is old, they can afford to let it go at a cost since most of their profit was mined years ago, but but any sucker they get hooked up has to pay premium for any extra content, that's the middle ground here for making the most amount of profit from older games since anyone who tries them out will likely pay for the DLC eventually anyways to get more content, ie they have no competition and can keep the price as high as they want.

Speaking of bullshit tacked onto the game for no reason, didn't this game have mandatory integration with Bethesda accounts back when that was a thing? I remember that Bethesda was shoving their shitty platform down everyone's throats and you had to make an account to access online features. This was a while ago but I swear they tried pulling something like this with Doom a few years ago.

If there is anything I got right for Eternal dents it is their low IQ, but that's a given when the main gameplay loop of their game is bing bing wahoo mario platforming with a gun? You know, until it runs out of ammo 12 seconds into a fight and they have to use their "epic" chainsaw finishers to get more ammo from some low tier enemy, because everybody knows that FPS players love to interrupt their combat to do menial bullshit in the middle of fighting just to get some basic resources they should have already had access to begin with in a more balanced game. It's not like the first fucking Doom game did that well back in 1993, thank goodness iD is re-inventing the wheel with every new release.

I can't imagine myself getting so incensed over a game, let alone create multiple pages of sperging for it.
 
The worst thing about Eternal is how every Doom discussion is now pro or anti Eternal and it derails threads.
My position is simple: Doom Eternal was a polished, well designed game that made understandably divisive changes. I don't think it's the biggest gameplay departure they've done; Doom 3 has that honor, with TDA coming in a close second. I enjoyed it well enough, but I started to see the cracks when I tried out the higher difficulty content(DLC and master levels) and I can see why some found them to be dealbreakers from the get-go.

I definitely preferred the 2016 formula. It was simpler and felt closer to classic Doom while still adding a bit of modern spin to it. They should have stuck with that and just tweaked it a bit. Forget the maps designed around parkouring and bring back the labyrinthine design from classic Doom, because that's what 2016 was really missing., The maps felt entirely too linear. And for fuck's sake stop wasting time and resources on Doom multiplayer.

Funny, because I actually consider Doom 3 to be much more true to the franchise than Eternal. It was slower paced and focused on the horror more than action(at least at the start), but honestly this is exactly what I would expect out of a next-gen Doom sequel, especially at the time. Moreover, it actually feels like a Doom game, there is no denying that at any point in time. Meanwhile, the only thing that keeps Eternal grounded to the franchise is the aesthetics and that it kind of plays like 2016 if you're drunk enough.

Eternal should not have been a mainline Doom game, it should have either been a spinoff or a Quake reboot or a new franchise entirely, I don't think anyone actually asked for this. I don't think Eternal is actually a bad game, but it is a horrible Doom title and it's fans are horribly thin skinned retard tourists that can't even insult back properly(let alone provide actual counter arguments to any of the game's flaws). Problem here is that Eternal isn't just "a game", it is the new direction the franchise is taking, and even with TDA you can still see they're still catering to Eternal nu-fans first and foremost. At least id-Tech 4 gave us not just Doom 3 but also Quake 4 and Prey(not to mention we got bangers like Doom and Wolfenstein RPG games for mobile at the time, back when iD wasn't afraid of taking risks), I have a feeling TDA is one of the better titles in this new era of Doom that panders to those who specifically do not play Doom games.

While I would have preferred them go for something much more in line with the classic games(levels that wrap around themselves, roaming monsters, fewer strictly linear maps), I think Eternal is the best they could have done while sticking to the arena formula of 2016. Due to console limitations, it's understandable why they did not go for the classic approach.
I wasn't particularly wowed by 2016 back when it released, and I can see why someone wouldn't care for Eternal as much, but it felt like a more refined version of 2016 that better knew what kind of game it wanted to be. DLCs included.

I wish more games did the 2016 formula. I enjoyed it and I enjoyed the multiplayer (Journos shit on it because it was an arena shooter and then eternal did whatever the fuck that was instead). It annoys me how Eternal became the template for boomer shooters because it's easier to balance a dash mechanic than normal movement.

Outer wilds and Worlds releasing so close puts a bad name on a good game. The time loop exploring one was such a cool idea.
 
Eh, not really. All nu-SWs are trying to be different games. 2013 is Asian nu-Wolfenstein, 2 is procgen Borderlands with parkour, 3 is a dollar store version of Eternal. All have their fair share of issues, too. I liked 2 the most but that's my Number Go Up autism bias I got from Diablo.
