DOOM

Here, managed to fit it all on one image.
edit: can't insert just a thumbnail for some reason.
Isn't that pretty much in line with the Doom 1 plot? You punched your asshole CO in the face, got stuck on some shitty patrol duty outside the station, and when you came back in everything had gone to hell and it was just you and your sidearm?

Yeah pretty much. like I said I'm disappointed because I wanted to see Doom guy's family getting killed and not saving them thus causing the "doubt and regret" that the main evil group uses to guilt trip him with, not what caused him to beat the crap out of his CO. I could've told you what made him do that and all I needed was a manual from 1993.

TBF his family could have been in the hospital for whatever reason. And yeah, I and a lot of other people always assumed that the Doomguy we played as in 2016 was the same one from the OG Doom series, wound up trapped in hell after the events of Doom 64 and made his way to whatever the fuck the Sentinel place is, then kicked ass, then imprisoned, then freed by Samuel Hyde Hayden.

I didn't like Doom 2016, once you got the SS it was press LMB to win. I can respect it for what it did, but it was one playthrough and done.

I legit do NOT get the hate for Eternal. It's hard only for people who refuse to learn the rules and play it like 2016. The only thing I'd complain about is that it relied a bit too heavily on cooldown shit, but the speed, movement and weapons, monsters were fucking locked in. Still easily my #1 of the decade, ex aequo with DMC V. Anyone who complains it's too hard - skill issue, try playing the game properly.

I didn't play TDA, and have no interest in it. Gameplay wise it's just not interesting to me. I get that they were trying something new, and it just didn't work.

As for the lore - in both 2016 and Eternal you could skip every cutscene and just straight up ignore the lore. I liked it, but it wasn't hamfisted like every other goddamn game on the market. I saw that in TBA they did go full Marvelslop, but I enjoyed what I saw in 2016 and Eternal.

All in all I don't get the hate for the studio. At least they didn't just copy paste every new entry, and didn't switch to Unreal - the games run on potato hardware and manage to look gorgeous. That deserves respect in my eyes

Eh. I still think of them as separate continuities and characters at this point, tonally the classic games are far too different and they make too many changes to the mythology of the series with the new games that I can't think of them as being the same.

Its funny how he doesn't even bother with Rage 2 from 2019 from how bad that game was.
mechanically the game was great but story wise the game was absolute bottom of the barrel shit.
which is kind of funny since they built it from nu-wolfenstein gameplay whose lore is also absolute crap.
The entire id Tech team has been fired. Only one person remains on staff to oversee the engine.
what a funny way to say he is meant to fail training the jeets that will push the jeeta to adopt unreal engine instead.

It made my hands hurt. I like it when after I play a game for an hour, my hands don't hurt.
Old or (and may Allah forgive me for saying this) a controller player.

If a controller, understandable. I can't imagine playing Eternal with a controller and not keyboard & mouse as God intended.

Well, I can say that I've beaten and 100-percented the DLC for Dark Ages now. Overall I'd say it's a 7/10. The master arenas are fun but they do suffer a bit from Eternal's "what the actual am I looking at" with some of them and how spammy they can be. Like Eternal, you can only do so much to make the game difficult before you just start repeating the same encounters having 4-5 minibosses on the field at once. If there were any reservations on what the best weapon was, well, the master arenas prove its the rocket launcher by a country mile.

I hate the "secret" boss with a passion though and its so bad it makes the Dark Lord fight look well designed. If it's any consolation, the horrendous boss design will die with ID at least...

I share your opinion, but I'm not hating the Astral Boss as hard. I found it really underwhelming though. I still have to do the Master Arenas, but I think they are as atrocious as the Praetor fight in Chasm of Xal’Goroth, if not worse. Played campaign + DLC on Nightmare with the 0 lives modifier.
The spear was absolute shit at first, but with upgrades and getting the hang of it, it's really fucking strong. It's basically almost Eternal's gameplay with different guns (and no nades). I never used the shield from that point on, with a few exceptions and I had fun.
The soundtrack is sadly forgettable in general (base game + DLC), but there are a few tracks that are legitimately good and stand out. After playing the game some more, I warmed up to it.
