Notice how 80-90% of the worthwhile people in the doom community have branched off into their own thing or used the community as a stepping stone for their career, none of them care about it and want to stay.

What wouldn't i give to know what the thinking process of some of the fools who do this is. Surely they can't all be dumb kids. And i assume some of them are gamers, so what makes them spend 5 minutes drawing a featureless piece of shit that doesn't even resemble a video game, and then go "This is awesome stuff i have here, i have to make a post on Doomworld announcing what i'm working on", expecting people there to be excited about it. What makes these retards tick?

Who's the guy behind Captain Wayne Vacation Desperation? It just released yesterday and it seems like he just came out of nowhere. I think I'll bite the bullet because it's only 9$. It's only 4 hours, but has challenges and an endless mode. I did play the demo and thoroughly enjoyed it.

He made a YouTube gaming channel, not as a hobby, but expecting to make a career out of it? That was his first mistake. His second mistake is that avatar that will repel 90% of the potential viewers (you know, the normal ones). His third mistake is being a fag VTuber. I know some VTubers are very successful (which is still unexplainable to me), but surely they're just "the lucky ones". If your goal is to make money on YouTube, do something else first, something normal. His fourth mistake was making a Doom channel... if you're going to create a gaming channel with commentary, reviews and playthroughs, hoping for a lot of viewers, you should focus on new games and gaming news, not 30+ year old games. Just because Decino succeeds with Doom, doesn't mean there's room for others to do the same. His fifth mistake will be if he switches his content to Quake expecting a change, Quake's community is a lot smaller, obviously.

It's stupid and kinda sad, but almost every gamedev is expected to have a bsky account purely for networking reasons, even if they're never really active on the platform themselves. Like a much more informal, infinitely gayer LinkedIn

They're pretty much attention-seekers seeking recognition from random strangers. Case in point, I was in a YT chat one time and there's this person claiming to be a 21-year old, telling everyone that it's his birthday, he's trying to be a writer and his parents say that he's a good writer without showing any hint of his work then asks why everyone but him is the only one mostly active in the chatbox. Sadly, no one told him to stfu and try to act like an adult for once.

Just remember to pirate your shit and if you have to own a game you suspect is made by people who hate you on steam for whatever reason, wait a couple of years for key reselling sites to have them at heavily discounted prices. Indie games especially are super easy to pirate and It's easy to figure out which key sites on gg.deals are good and which are scams.

You can't become exhausted or demoralized from overworking yourself thinking about this shit if you just switch up your habits and go about your business as usual.

I remember back 2012 when i would eagerly browse doomorld for wads, and get excited for the Cacowards

Actually effort projects were nominated back then. Wads like Going Down and JPCP, that had clever scripting and map features were there. Nowadays is just dumb tranny drama, anime profile pictures of little girls everywhere. It wasn't like that

I don't feel like browsing, and i haven't checked cacowards in many years
 
Catching up on all the Doomworld drama, man I just really hope these people don't flock to Quake.

There's a really awesome mod for Quake called 'The Immortal Lock' (also made by a tranny, but meh, you wouldn't know by playing it) that really puts that Belot thing to shame. Gameplay is a bit rough (literal Sunlust clone fights, extreme slaughter) but I love the overall atmosphere and theme. The ease of using Quake's mapping/modding tools, high-quality texture packs, etc. mean you get genuinely great gameplay mods/maps as frequently as the small community can put out, but it also means it's ripe for shit like Belot and people making all the "this whole mod is an allegory for my transgender journey" crap.

When will these people find out you can be for trans rights and not be so on-the-nose about it? It's so fatiguing to hear over and over again. And besides, this is not the 90's anymore. You can be openly gay and even trans in most places and not have people want to tar and feather you anymore. Why people want to continue this death march of representation is beyond me.
