I've been Doom mapping a few years now and I wanted to share my experience with the community.

The actual doomworld website itself is fine for just posting/reviewing maps, so long as you keep it all at an arm's length. I don't use it for much else, but in my time there I eventually found some people to talk to and hang out with across a couple of discord servers. I spent about a year hanging out with these people, until one night one of them messaged me saying that she found my account on this site and wasn't comfortable with what was being discussed.

I've browsed this site for a while, and I never made a secret of that to them, but I've also never had an account until today, so whichever one of you faggots is me better fess up now. Also for context, this accusation came from somebody that once worked as a prostitute, that likes watching Cartel beheading videos, that is a former (maybe current?) alcoholic, that has received an IP ban on twitch for convincing kids to fry their electronics on stream, and that watches videos of people eating rotten animal carcasses in the woods with glee. This is also somebody that wished a guy would kill himself just so she could keep his xbox.

Before I could even respond to this person, she blocked me, and I woke up the next morning to see that I'd been removed from almost all of their discord servers. They refused to even show me the posts they were accusing me of making, so that's the kind of people you're dealing with in this community.

For the person who banned me, if you're reading this, you know who you are, and I want you to know that this account exists because of you, congratulations.

Now outside of that, I also want to comment that the egos some of these people develop are insufferable. They spend a lot of time just stroking each other off on discord when all they do really is make levels for a thirty year old video game that other people happen to play and enjoy. Get over yourselves you pretentious losers.

You're not alone in this regard, though in my case I've went under my back-then alias intentionally.

count their act against you as a wake up call and somewhat of a blessing, if these people are so easily offended by the little fact alone that you were lurking kiwi farms for your own interests - these people deserve zero hospitality whatsoever.

It is kinda funny, but at the same time I don't like people messing with kids, they really don't know any better. Oh, and in the week prior to kicking me out, she created a discord soundboard with such lovely selections as having a hitler speech as one of the buttons, and another that was somebody saying "communism was founded by the jews." I thought both of these were pretty funny, but it's the hypocrisy, that's the worst part.

To be fair, it wasn't just browsing the site, but the idea that they thought I had an account here (that was apparently discussing something bad that they wouldn't show me so really I don't know what they were accusing me of) but I also got the impression that even if I did prove them wrong, they would've just changed the goalposts and said "well you browse the site and that's bad enough."

Some of the people in the community are pretty chill, and that's mostly the kind that really want nothing more than to share maps and know not to take themselves too seriously about it.

Certain parties will not be happy about this video. I've seen some people seething behind the scenes over MyHouse.wad, and they refuse to play it (probably because it's shown them the limits of their own mediocrity by becoming way more popular than anything they'll ever make). Seeing John Romero himself play it will not sit well with some.

Some probably will seethe but I guess the author of the myhouse.wad just got lucky, especially with liminal horror being a recent trend, so it's not surprising.
This shouldn't deter anyone from making their own wads that love & passion is put into them and especially shouldn't be made for fame or recognition. It's about the journey & fun in the end plus the experience.

Oh & the author got allegedly doxxed because of it, so..yeah.

There is also a certain amount of people in between the both simps and haters that don't like this thing because the amount of attention it gets, just.

Like me. Never was a great Doom mapper, but when things like this map gets this much of attention and shilling I'm inclined to feel high rate of annoyance and mindless worshipping. I saw a few streams with this map and no, I don't see anything groundbreaking.

It's not a dig at MyHouse, by the by, I can at least understand why it would require GZDoom at a minumum. And I haven't even played it yet!

It is annoying hearing about just one thing over and over for months, but I was trying to refer more so to people that hate it because it's more popular than anything they make. There are people whose egos really don't take kindly to the success of other people's projects.

Most doom projects are really not noteworthy at all, pretty disposable actually. It's Doom, afterall, which is a very surface level experience: here are monsters, shoot them, and as fun as that is to me and other Doom fans, it's not enough to nab the attention of the general public, which is why most projects get a few plays from other Doom fans and then fade away completely. I think Übermensch Doom Cuck got it right for why myhouse is so popular. Every now and then normies will take a look at the doom community and see something that looks a little bit deeper than your average Doom experience and they eat it up.
