Intriguing! I was foolish enough at one point to believe Cacowards were genuine fan voting considering the yearly threads that pop up on doomworld about cacowards.

From what I've seen, I can confirm that Cacowards lean towards nepotistic rating for the most part. Koolkitzklub always get their "eye-candy" wads nominated for the tenth time.

GZDoom is unironically one of the worst pieces of software ever written. The fact that it can't render fucking E1M1 at 4K on a 3060 Ti is abysmal, and the implementations of its various graphical features are laughable at best (don't believe me? turn on SSAO and look at the edges of the screen). I hate that it's the engine of choice for almost all modders and if I were capable of hanging on a project for longer than a week I'd write my own fucking UDMF-compatible port with compatibility options that actually work.

I'm impressed that for as long as I've been using it, and for each system I've used it on, it's always run like shit. Even when I first started using it back in 2015, it had issues where it would freeze my whole computer and I would have to restart it. And now, where my current computer is mostly good, it's OpenGL renderer still lags like hell, and Vulkan still feels unstable, crashing often.

This is why ZDoom is still my source port of choice.
